483.0500 p-25

Around 12:30 or so today, Tuesday 10-28-08, I was hearing 483.0500 P-25/clear with a couple of #700 series units conducting radio tests with the Radio shop. A FCC search of MA turns up one license for the Town of Dover Fire Department.

Lincoln, MA PD uses 483.000 (kind of close to 483.050)as I recall, also a listing came up with Somerset, MA.

The only reason why I thought about P25 and the UHF F-s in that area is because of NEMLEC. Maybe Lincoln PD is starting to use P-25?

Lincoln doesn't use the 700's series. Methuen was issued the 700 Series at the Start of the NEMLEC, and Woburn was issued the 740's. I cant remember what departments were issued the 700's for BAPERN, but this is old info and may have been phased out.

Dover is the only licensed department in the region on 483.050. I doubt that 483.000 is outputting on 483.05, especially with P25 involved, unless there is a serious issue with the system.

It could be that Dover has radios with P25 capability and is testing them. Their license does not show the proper emission designator for P25 though, but I'm sure they wouldn't be the first.

The next adjacent frequencies for 483.05 are 483.0375 and 483.0625. Those could be the only possibilities, but most current model scanners will do very well to reject something that close, and it will sound extremely distorted at that.

I don't know if Dover has even constructed their system anyhow. They had some issues at the main site, but I haven't heard anything since then. They may be starting construction now, so keep an ear on that, I'll try that from here. I get the PD quite well.

That matches what I've been told. I've also been told that Natick is going to 483.650 DPL172, maybe by the end of this year.

Yes, Natick Fire will be going UHF by the end of the year. We currently have one frequency 483.650 DPL172 and are starting the system build out.

We are also in search of a second UHF channel, if we find one, we will then make the decision on what UHF channel will be primary or secondary.

Just heard Dover conducting a 17:45 radio check, analog, didn't catch the tone, #701 answered the radio check with a loud and clear. So perhaps they have bought P-25 capable radios but will use analog for "interoperability" with surrounding towns.

I heard the same test last night at 17:45. I caught the same tone previously mentioned (D-065). I also monitored 33.500 during the test and there was nothing heard...no simulcasting. I'll listen further to see if they have fully switched over with their daily operations (not just testing).
