Re: Article about Fire Communications breakdowns

A "van packed with communications equipment".......... Excuse me while I throw up. Anyone every hear of the FieldCom program maybe 15 years ago? The Mass Chiefs got together and bought 6 Sprinter vans at $300K a piece that were dispersed throughout the state to help with interoperability. The only p...

THUMPER with training tracks

About 1130 local on 364.2, a Huntress Intercept freq, heard THUMPER calling out intercepts, presumably training. Female operator calling the tracks. Didn't hear any other frequencies active, but was busy and didn't have both ears on the radios. Not sure if I've heard THUMPER before. As an aside ther...

How is NB and Seekonk able to hold onto their T-Band channels, if eventually they may be required to leave?
Whoever buys the T-Band frequencies will be required to pay for relocating agencies affected. You'd be foolish to vacate on your own dime.

Re: Television Repack Thread

"About" what is the range? (I fully understand ymmv).

I'm at about 110' 65 miles west in Gardner.

Debating also getting an antenna for the place in Maine (campground is bootlegging a few channels off DirecTV and the quality is awful, even for the local channels).

Re: SDS200 Observations

I was talking about the XTS series which are readily available on the fleaBay for only a couple hundred bucks. And they are as easy to program as the SDS scanners. And no, I'm not talking about trunked and the hidden talk group method, etc. I'm talking about simple conventional analog/digital LMR. T...

Kinda funny that depending on the number of channels you actively monitor, the best and cheapest bet now for analog and even conventional digital may be /\/\otorola.

Re: Regions chiefs criticize Maine PUC's 911 rules

Scripted call taking is another cookie cutter approach to service that is making a lot of people who don't have to answer the calls rich. I've done the medical training in the past when I was a temporary dispatch supervisor. I understand why it is there, at least for medical. But having a set script...

Re: Providence Fire Channel Numbers/Talkgroups

Hello, Interesting post over on Facebook about Providence FD by Richard G. Blais. Someone commented about hearing MDC-1200 on the Providence fire channels. "I am a retired Providence fire fighter after 31 years and help design the system as a tech specialist. When they dispatch companies for master...

Locked thread? What a joke.

On the one hand, that place is such a cesspool I can see why it's locked. On the other, some of the posters take their cues from the usually one sided over moderation.

Re: FRCOG Changes soon???

Given that letter to the editor, cost is an issue and the way those folks think, they will cheap out again. Franklin County's main problem is the hilly, rural terrain couple with a lack of population. How do you justify 100% coverage for areas with no population to taxpayers who don't want to pay an...

Re: SDS 200

My SDS100 is currently at Uniden being repaired after 10 months. I will still probably pick up the SDS200, but I hope they worked out the front end IF overload issues that plagued the SDS100. (Especially the first run, which I had). What are the symptoms of the front end overload. Maybe that's what...

Re: SDS 200

I tripped over my richard buying the SDS100. It hasn't fixed simulacst distortion at all on analog, but I will say when I'm traveling it's great on P25. So for now I have 0 interest in it, but it's good to hear the reports.

Re: Fire District 8 Simulcast

The notes on the Worcester Wiki page say that this is a simulcast of 33.70, but I don't see that as a mutual aid frequency on the Worcester County Fire Wiki page. What is the actual frequency this simulcasts? 33.70 is the old frequency 31.10 is the new repeater which is cross banded to the 453.75 w...

Re: DMR use with public safety.

I was talking with a suburban fire chief today. He said that there is going to be more use of the various fire district interop channels and far less of departments using each others channels on mutual aid calls. I mentioned the Stow PD system and he pointed out that police generally make far less ...

Re: DMR use with public safety.

Read the NIOSH report on the Lancaster Mass fire. Then we'll talk about interoperability. That being said, what was the issue or lessons learned from this fatal fire? One of the issues was the lack of communications between abutting towns that constantly ran to the same calls together. It's all wel...

In Gardner I occasionally get the Warwick tower. No real rhyme or reason (other than a cruiser needs to be in range).

What was the previous receiver? But their system is definitely better to the south and east than to the north. Pure coincidence that someone who had something to do with the system lived in that direction away from the city.
