Re: Base Antenna

Another vote for the American-made DPD Omni X. I've had mine up 12+ years with no issues. Dave is a pleasure to deal with and was also active over on RR, too.

Re: DMR use with public safety.

FD & PD on VHF analog, but sell the town DPW/Hwy Dept DMR radios Or PD on P25 UHF, FD on analog UHF, and DPW/MUNI/EMA on DMR VHF like my town.... To the OP's point, there is nothing wrong with DMR for public safety as a protocol in of itself. In fact, I find the DMR protocol superior to P25 (...

Nice of them to port C Patrol 3 to Zone 5. Now we can listen to all of Troop C on Zone 5.
I wonder how much having all of C Troop on Zone 5 full time adds to the channel load? Can't say I've ever seen all Zone 5 channels in use at once, but I suppose it could happen now. #bonk

Walpole, MA DMR

My DMR repeater is now online, covering Walpole, MA and surrounding communities. It provides excellent portable coverage at Gillette Stadium and Patriot Place. Signal reports, especially from 95 and 495S are greatly greatly appreciated. W1JFR Walpole, MA Repeater NESMC Coordinated Frequency: 145.380...

I'll 3rd that on the Omni-X. Been running one for about 5 years with no issues. Great performing antenna that is much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, as well. Dave (owner) is responsive to emails.

I think what we have developed here over the past couple of years is much more accurate and reliable. I believe this is true for just about every system (RRDB vs SNE). The amount of on the ground/air investigation done by SNE members is amazing. The RRDB has gotten much better. I don't not want to ...

We called our site "Framingham Nobscott" with access via the street in Sudbury. (Brimstone St or something). The line is indeed just to the north of the tower.

Production version of the firmware and new Sentinel released today. I've installed in on my 436HP and it seems to work okay so far. A couple of things I'm going to have to tweak to get it to work the way I really want it to. A more detailed review in a bit. Must admit, they've done a good job impro...

For now as a beta release, the 436 does an absolutely horrible job with the Gillette CAP+ system. Set up as a system it gets maybe 5% of the traffic, at best. If I program each of the freqs individually... no problem. It's a know issue that they are aware of, but it will certainly need to be address...

I've been running this system in my Uniden 436 since beta release with mixed results. It worked really good the 1st day, which also happened to be a soccer game day. It's been really quite since. I figured there would be more traffic if this system is used by Patriot's Place Security. Maybe they're ...

PHASE II Scanning areas

Any backstory on why the 700 Overlay is mostly Phase-1? Was it money? Time when system was designed and bought? 700 users have hand-me-down radios? I fully understand the best decisions and plans for making systems like this are not the allowable decisions due to Govt rules, regs, mandates, stupidit...

UPMan basically said they have large $$$ tied up in royalties and R&D for this. They get that back by selling new scanners for $500-$600, rather than $50-$100 upgrade fees for older scanners. I hate that, but it's just business.

Looks like we have a lot of RR Database submitin' to do that would benefit new 436/536 DMR users. I just submitted a few systems over there.

I think the Amazon price has dropped today. $460.

Scanner World used to have great radio prices. I think the owner has had some health issues over the last few years and has scaled way back. I think they were even closed down for a bit?

I think I might bite the bullet now. This gives dual-band DMR (receive) capability that no other portable radio has.

HRO has the best price? $485.
