Re: Scituate,Ma

Were you able to receive them previously? I assume you programmed them in P25 per the wiki, may want to check the NAC. If it's a signal strength issue using a mag mount antenna, even inside, will greatly improve reception over the stock antenna. Place the magmout on a metal surface away from other m...

Reconfirmation: Devins Range Control

Last weekend I reconfirmed Devins Range control on 140.08750 NAC $293

Didn't hear anything on the MP frequency but I could have been out of range.

No, that's incorrect. It involves everyone vacating channels 38-51. Only two stations locally went VHF. In fact two stations are still occupying T-Band post repack.
WUTF (27.1, Channel 19), and WBZ (4.1, Channel 20).
Thanks for the correction.

Re: New Somerset PD Freq.

They have a valid license to operate on those frequencies until they are required to vacate them following the auction of the spectrum. We are currently in the "freeze" where no new T-Band licenses are issued and existing users cannot expand their coverage footprint. The law requires an auction be h...

Only reason I that I noticed was activity with a different PL on the Easton channel which I've never seen before with this setup. The stadium definitely has a geographic advantage compared to where I am.

UHF Enhancement 07/01/2019

Hearing Fitchburg PD 453.42500 PL186.2 down here in Easton which is not normal for my set up.

Haven't poked around to see if I'm hearing anything else out of the ordinary.

Horseneck Beach is a state reservation. The staff including lifeguards work for DCR.

I believe they use DCR 15 for all their communications.

Re: USCG Towers

So, in simple terms, antenna towers are no longer needed due to radios being controlled remotely? Are there remote antennas also? Sorry, I'm just not following the technical explanation. Yes, They have whole radio sites with base stations and antennas up on a tower. The sites are all connected back...

Re: Mobile Antenna

My guess is that is the *possible* frequency range of the antenna and you would cut it to the center frequency you want and the *actual* range would be much more limited. BUT since it states that it's 3" this antenna has already been cut to a 1/4 wave on ~800 MHz. You could cut it again to go higher...

It's possible that you're local site is not heavily used, either due to coverage or radio programming. Would be worth seeing what other sites you are able to hear. As you might expect, If a site has more channels that's because the system operator anticipates it being busier and may even program rad...

That is exactly what's happening. In most cases a site (tower) will only assign a channel and transmit a call if there is a radio associated with that site and affiliated to that talkgroup. So as you're observing if there is no user on that talkgroup and that tower you won't hear the transmission on...

Hey Nick, A big part of trunking systems is that many of the features are based off radios affiliating with the system. This means that the radio checks in with the system, using its trunking unit ID, in most cases as soon as the radio powers on. So even when it's not talking on a talkgroup the radi...

Of course, Just saying that a 'clone' with CPS is not the same as with a scanner or ham radio. It just saves the person doing the programming from having to remake the band plan and enter all the sites and talkgroups. I'd assume that whoever would be programming this radio has enough sense to use a ...

I agree with everyone else on this. Will that radio work on a P25 Phase I trunking system, yes, but as Ed stated being a Harris system there are some nuances to using a Motorola radio on it. Beyond what was mentioned, programming a radio for VHF trunking take a lot of time to do yourself or costs a ...
