Pre-amplifier question for 800 Mhz Band

I am thinking about purchasing a pre-amplifier and was wondering what people recommend. I currently have a BCD996XT connected to a 5dB Laird mobile antenna that is placed on a metal rack in a closet in my apartment. Most of the monitoring I do is in the 800Mhz Band (MSP, Massport, Cambridge).

A quick search might result in frequencies being stored if that is how you have it set up. The only other thing is if your computer is causing interference that is killing the reception and it scans. I regularly run Unitrunker and Pro96Com with the 396/996XT and never see what you are describing. c...
