Re: Augusta Public Works

I can only occasionally receive this trunked system in Augusta, but pretty sure I picked up Augusta DPW on TG 01-0003 today.

Re: Augusta Public Works

Try checking some private digital trunking systems (Maine Radio, Horizon, RCM, etc.) - it's possible they're using a private system and don't have their own frequencies/systems licensed. I know a few school departments around the state do this. You'll likely have to sort through a lot of oil compani...

Re: Maine Game Wardens

garys, just for the heck of it, double check your programming of that frequency. The old "Game Warden NORTH" of 154.725 is used with a NAC of 527 by Stafford County Sheriff, NH. I know you referenced the frequency specifically (155.970), but it just struck me as really coincidental that you picked u...

Re: MSCommNet Thread II

99% of that traffic on Mt Blue is Zone 2A. The solar powered sites (Mt Blue included) are basically a hybrid of a conventional and trunked system - it's single frequency, but the talkgroup is sent as part of the digital data when voice is transmitted. If you happen to have a scanner that can read ta...

Re: Portland 800 System P25 Upgrade

ajaphoto - Is it possible you also mixed up 1003 vs 1007? I'm going through my recordings from the other day when I was in Portland, and 1003 is definitely dispatch/primary, and I don't have any hits on 1007.

Re: RCAF training out of Auburn

I can't seem to find any published frequencies specifically for the 450, but looking at the website below (and clicking on "1 Wing"), most of the tactical helicopter squadrons use various frequencies in the mil air spectrum (not surprisingly) as well as VHF-Lo in the 40-50 MHz range. I'm going to sp...

Over the last several years (even more), there have been several stories in local newspapers about the lack of radio coverage for ASO. Apparently there have been a lot of dead zones, especially in western parts of the county. I'm guessing the Poland and Leeds repeaters were an attempt to fix, but th...

I have not heard the 71.9 tone since 206.5 became active. I believe the 71.9 tone was the Leeds site (the only site using 154.8225 until recently), but what I'm hearing with 206.5 is definitely much closer to me (in Poland) than Leeds.

ASO has recently (in the past year or so?) licensed a bunch of new sites for a P25 simulcast / analog system of repeaters. Sites include the existing Auburn, Poland and Leeds sites, in addition to Streaked in Buckfield, Pigeon Hill in Mechanic Falls, Moose Hill in Livermore Falls, and a site in Durh...

On Zone 1A, heard a Warden unit ask to have another Warden contact him on "Warden Service TAC All". Waited to hear one of the 15XX talkgroups light up, but never did, so I assume they must have been on tower site(s) out of my range. Assuming it's probably TG 1523, but I can't say for sure. I agree with Thomas - upgrade to a digital scanner! They're a bit more expensive, but you will not be disappointed! Plus, you'll be able to monitor MSCOMMNET (including Zone 3) from Fish Hill again.

If you are in Millinocket, like your signature says, try Musquash Mt in Topsfield (155.400, PL 162.2) to your southeast, or Garland (151.220, PL 162.2) to your southwest. These are analog Region Net repeaters that simulcast the primary zone frequencies from the digital trunked system. These appear t...

Hmmmm, you are correct, I don't know why I was thinking Fayette was licensed as a repeater. I'm definitely hearing a repeater, and where ever it is, I've monitored it for many years and it's always been referred to as "Channel 22". Locations mentioned are typically west of Augusta, as far west as th...

Resurrecting this thread from last year. 47.340 88.5 on Spruce Mt in Woodstock is still routinely called "Channel 7", and 47.220 179.9 (multiple central Maine licenses, but I think the repeater is in Fayette) is being called "Channel 13". Also only hearing the CW ID on the West Kennebago repeater - ...

I don't know a lot about about military communication, but is it possible that it's duplex (base transmitting back on a different frequency), or possibly it's a repeater set-up and you're hearing the helicopters on the input frequency? Hooked it up to DSD+ to see what the readout would be when this non-control data is transmitted. It was decoding it as "TDULC". A quick Google search turned up a conversation at RadioReference where someone explained it as "Terminator Data Units with Link Control". Apparently it's to allow radios to...
