Re: VHF/UHF Unication G3!

At least with the G5 the issue is not just swapping the antenna. The UHF or VHF receiver has no connection to the external antenna (also no connection to antenna connector on amplified base). Oh, gross. I had naively assumed both antennas would be accessible through that connector. I don't recall t...

VHF/UHF Unication G3!

It was apparently announced about a month ago, but I just learned this weekend that Unication has finally created a VHF+UHF version of their G5 scanner, the Unication G3. (There's also a G2, which is single-band VHF or UHF.) https://www.unicationusa.com/post/new-product From what I've read, they're ...

Wynn / Encore casino, Everett

As my train passed the Encore in Everett, I got to wondering about their radios, as one does... WRAR389 is the only license I can turn up for them: 857.8625 858.8625 859.8625 Licensed for analog voice and DMR, conventional. (Incidentally, it's wideband voice. I guess that's still allowed on 800 MHz?...

Re: New posts in a forum

It's been about a decade since I ran a phpBB site myself, but as I recall: The yellow/orange icon on a forum means it that it contains one or more posts you haven't read. If you are viewing the list of topics/posts in a forum, you should see a "Mark topics read" link. At the top of the list there's ...

Re: Boston Logan Airport Public Safety and Operations

Neat! I've wanted something like this for a while now. The SDRs are capable of several MHz of bandwidth at once; I always wanted something that would let me monitor a bunch of it off one SDR. Looks like it does conventional as well! All of the main Boston PD channels are within about a half MHz of s...

Re: Help to ID

D&D / Dispatch / Metro does seem to have moved, not quite sure it is Boston due to the signal strengths Boston [Original] is still much stronger then the Waltham sites - they may have combined them as Boston is EVEN LCN's and Waltham Freqs are still Odd LCN's They had to knock power way down as the...

Re: Help to ID

I love a good mystery. A few of these piqued my interested and I spent a bit seeing if I could find any leads in the FCC databases. 462.0375 R 250.3 - Been around for years, but never tracked down Did you catch the nature of traffic? I see three Part 90 licenses in the state: WQFQ933, Boston Univers...

Re: Barnstable Schools Unlicensed Operation

The Agent found that Barnstable High School was operating a Motorola XPR-8400 repeater on the Land Mobile Radio Service frequency 463.375 MHz That's not a "We bought these walkie-talkies on Amazon and didn't know we needed a license" mistake. I don't know anyone who knows how to program a Trbo repe...

I'm not super active here, but have been finding useful information on the wiki here for years. Thanks, Scott, for running the site for all this time, and thanks, Mike, for picking up the torch! It sounds like you folks have everything under control, but my "real job" is back-end web development, so...

Re: MBTA PD UHF signal issues?

But yet their scared to ride the trains... go figure? :D I assumed they'd say it was something about mobility, but I've seen more sketchy stuff happen on trains than in stations. The police powers bit is interesting. I noticed some years ago that college PDs have a similar deal -- not just police p...

Re: MBTA PD UHF signal issues?

I wondered about that. The dispatcher always has a great signal, and many, but not all, other units did, too. The "good" signal was about -55 dBm, and the "bad" one was around -120 dBm. My office is 11 stories up a block away from City Hall, so anything designed to cover Boston is quite strong. But ...

MBTA PD UHF signal issues?

I'm in the office in Boston today and noticing a weird issue where some comms are very strong, but some are just barely above the noise floor. This seems kind of weird since it's a repeater so it doesn't really make any sense... Has anyone noticed something similar? Does anyone know if UHF is still ...

Re: Boston PD feed?

This is all good to know. I just ordered a UHF Yagi to see if I can get a stronger signal than I get off my discone and maybe set up a feed. :) I'll occasionally listen to feeds for a breaking incident outside of scanner range, but the main purpose for me is to go back through the Broadcastify archi...

Lowell Wastewater reconfirmation

I'm on a roll with finding / reconfirming pretty boring traffic. ;) http://www.scan-ne.net/wiki/index.php?title=City_of_Lowell#City_Services The information on the Waste Water Utility is correct, 463.775 with a 100.0 Hz PL. The callsign is WPYJ460 and it's a repeater. I dug this up and started liste...

Boston PD feed?

As far as I can tell, there is not a feed specifically for Boston PD on Broadcastify. The best I can find is https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/25818 which includes a whole bunch of stuff. Does anyone know if the lack of a dedicated Boston PD feed is simply because no one has set one up, or if...

Re: Middlesex county PD MDC IDs?

Thanks, all! While PCSD's site doesn't cover Middlesex, I'm always surprised by how much good information they share. And it seems to confirm that some of the numbering comes from BAPERN. I might try to more accurately map out ranges for some of these. I think the bit in my original post was an over...

Middlesex county PD MDC IDs?

I set up MDC decode on my HT listening to local public safety stuff, largely so I'd get muting of the noise, but I'm curious about the unit IDs. I'm noticing that each department seems to have its own range, so I suspect there's some central assignment. Is this so? If so, does anyone know who assign...

Re: Billerica - noise at the end of a transmission

Just spent about 30 minutes listening to Billerica PD and FD each with squelch open here in Lowell. All sounds normal to me; the only noise is the MDC1200 burst at the start. That said, I'm listening on a Motorola HT which I suspect might have tighter filtering than a Baofeng. I wonder if there's so...

Interesting! I'll have to give this a listen. I find WQWP410 for the Bedford, MA site.

Dell/EMC has a ~450' self-supporting tower in Southboro. It's also home to a couple DMR ham repeaters with awesome range.

Re: D&D Dispatch

I've stumbled across the MPT-1327 system a handful of times while scanning the band. It's super weird, maybe some sort of duplex system. The dispatcher will stayed keyed down for extended periods of time, sometimes not appearing to be talking to anyone. On all the MPT-1327 stuff, unkeying has some w...

Re: County Comms NXDN (System 90)

Oddly, I had no luck with LCN finder on analyze or with Discovery. When I ran the system in ID Search mode out in the Weston area, I got all sort of hits. I'll have to play with that a bit more. If I have time tomorrow, I'm going to sit at the top of a hill in that area and see if I can figure that...
