I missed everyone, ended up oversleeping by mistake on Saturday (which was the only day I had off), by the time I got up it wouldn't have been worth it to make the journey, imo.

12 days! Which reminds me I need to get up to HRO and buy advance tickets. But anyways, I'll be there both days selling the club's SK stuff. Same place as usual by Relaxation Grove next to the Nut Net crew.

Re: Hamvention who is going? Xenia or BUST!!

Got back yesterday after spending the night in Columbus. Didn't buy anything, got sunburned. Overall, had a good time for my first Hamvention.

I'll be going. I'm flying out of BOS to Columbus with a few others, then renting and driving to Dayton/Xenia.

Re: Freescan Software

The developer decided he didn't have time for it and gave it to the community as open source in 2019. If you downloaded from Sixspot, you have the last version that they released. I am unsure if anyone has continued development and if they have, I do not know if they have made their version availab...

Re: NEAR-Fest is not Optional!!! October 15th & 16th 2021

Possibly. I went to NEAR-Fest XXVI (i.e. October 2019) and obviously, COVID put the kibosh on anything since. I'm pretty busy in October (with the Marathon and possibly the Regatta) but if I can find the days off (surprisingly, the dates in October are actually all filled at my job) I'll be there.

FCC to possibly start charging for amateur licensing

In 2018, Congress passed "Repack Airwaves Yielding Better Access for Users of Modern Services Act of 2018" or the "RAY BAUM’S Act of 2018" which per the ARRL, "requires that the FCC switch from a Congressionally-mandated fee structure to a cost-based system of assessment.&qu...

Re: Boston Logan Airport Public Safety and Operations

So I've taken the feed offline, it's been having connectivity issues since I was using a Wi-Fi dongle for the connection to the internet and it seems to drop every few days. On top of that, a lot of the recordings wouldn't play properly and I have no idea how to fix that at the moment, maybe, someda...

Virgin diversion

Alert 2 called last night for a fire on board Virgin Atlantic 138 (JFK-LHR) which diverted to BOS, caused by a battery of some sort (although scanner audio posted below made it sound like a wiring issue, although granted I didn't listen to the entirety of the audio.) Here's a compilation of audio s...

What's everyone Field Day plans this year. I almost didn't get it off because I forgot about it and didn't take the days off at work right away during our annual vacation bid luckily there were one or two spots left. Anyways, I'll be with the NSRA (NS1RA) up in Topsfield (no Endicott Park this year ...

That deck had a ton of interesting info, many thanks. I wonder what caused the change. No problem. It's were I get a lot of my info about changes at BOS. Re: Logan/MassPort TGs

A bit off topic, as I understand it the Worcester Safety & Security guys are now Massport Fire as of this year. Does ORH still have any law enforcement now other than Troop F? It would just be Troop F, if WAS&S was converted to Massport Fire. I did overtime one day at ORH (I work at BOS), a...

Re: Boston Logan Airport Public Safety and Operations

Neat! I've wanted something like this for a while now. The SDRs are capable of several MHz of bandwidth at once; I always wanted something that would let me monitor a bunch of it off one SDR. Looks like it does conventional as well! All of the main Boston PD channels are within about a half MHz of ...

Boston Logan Airport Public Safety and Operations

I've setup a feed of Boston Logan's public safety (MSP Troop F and Massport Fire) and operations on OpenMHz. It is by no means perfect, since it's a bit of a kludge using 3 RTL-SDR dongles and the trunk-recorder software. The antennas currently are just 3 mag whip antennas that come with the dongles...

MSP on OpenMHz

So, someone has setup an OpenMHz feed of the MSP SmartNet system just recently. It wasn't there a few days ago. (Then again I only learned about the site a few days ago myself.) It's pulling what it receives from Site 8. OpenMHz is a little different from Broadcastify, in that it's essentially a set...
