For those interested, Whistler has announced the TRX-1 handheld will have an MSRP of $649 and the TRX-2 mobile/desktop will have an MSRP of $729. Of course the "street price" of a scanner is usually lower than the MSRP.

Attached are pictures of the TRX-1 handheld and the TRX-2 mobile/desktop (with removable faceplate).

I'm interested in hearing from owners of either TRX-1 or TRX-2 who also own either a GRE PSR 500 or 600. My question is are the TRX 1 and 2 better on rejecting the intermod/overload issues that the GRE's have?

Thank you in advance for the information.

Gordon

Does anyone have the Whistler trx-2 or trx-1 and a Uniden 436/536hp? Which one do you like better, what are some of the major pros/cons of each one?

Thank you

I have not used the Whistler, but I have both the Uniden BCD996P2 and 536HP so I can compare those.

The advantage of the 536HP is that it comes preloaded with the nationwide database. That's pretty much the biggest feature that differentiates it from the 996P2 for $175 less. The 536HP is great for people who don't know what a frequency is and just want a preprogrammed scanner, but for anyone smart enough to ask "what scanner should I buy", my answer is always going to be the BCD996P2 because instead of coming preprogrammed, you can set it up however you want.

I use my 536HP with the GPS when I am travelling because I don't have to program it for every new area I visit. The 536HP also has a built in recorder that I use when searching frequencies, but for the other 90% of the time I prefer the 996P2.

The 536HP gives you a lot more information on the screen when trying to analyze systems, especially DMR. I have a 996P2, and in order to get any DMR system, you need to program it as a trunked system. Even then, it won't show you the slot being used, whereas the 536HP will. On the 536, I just enter the DMR frequency into quick search mode, and all that information is at a glance. That being said, and this may sound like a silly thing, I still like that the 996 can change colors and go "dimmer" than the 536HP can. I have bad eyesight, and the ability to change to softer color and lower light, makes it a huge advantage when travelling.

The big win for me, however, on the 536, is that if you have it in your car, you only need to bring the SD card in the house to update it. No dregging a laptop out to your car, hooking up to the USB, *or* having to remove the whole scanner, to bring it in to program.
