Yagi Suggestion - 470-490 MHz

#1 Post by W1KNE » 24 Feb 2018 18:08

Any good suggestions on a Yagi that will work best with 480 MHz?

Looking to setup another online feed.

I believe Laird might have exactly what you are looking for. The Laird model Y4706 is a UHF yagi tuned for 470-490 MHZ (so 480 MHz is right in the middle). It has 10.2 dB gain and is terminated with an N connector.

Pricing of the Laird Y4706 varies around the internet but here is what I found:

1. Mouser Electronics sells it for $126.48: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/814-Y4706
2. Solid Signal sells it for $142.38 (with a "List Price" of $223.99 listed): https://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=y4706
3. Talley sells it on their website for the full "Suggested Retail" of $245.69: https://www.talleycom.com/viewProduct?r ... m=ANXY4706
4. Tessco has it listed on their website (https://www.tessco.com/products/display ... ?sku=68460) but you need a Tessco account to get pricing. If you or someone you know (like a local radio shop perhaps) has a Tessco account, that might give you the best pricing on this commercial yagi antenna from Laird.

As an addendum to my post #2 above, Laird also makes a smaller model Y4705 yagi designed specifically for 470-490 MHz. The Y4705 has 9.2 dB gain, a 37-inch boom length and 5 elements while the larger Y4706 (detailed in my post above) has 10.2 dB gain, a 44-inch boom length and 6 elements. Both antennas have the same 20 dB front-back ratio and the same 7/8" boom diameter.

Here's the link to a Laird pdf file detailing both antennas (see page 3 of the 5-page pdf file under "Gold Anodized Fully Welded UHF Models"): https://www.talleycom.com/images/pdf/ANXFG8693.pdf
