New Natick DPW DMR

#1 Post by ErrolW » 08 Dec 2017 09:15

With snow on the horizon I thought I would share a new DPW DMR system I have been working to figure out.
Over the summer Natick DPW seems to have completely stopped using their former system (simulcast UHF and VHF low).
They have installed a new DMR system.
The license is confusing to me (probably b/c I don't know how these systems are usually constructed).
WQZU239 http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSear ... ey=3944994 includes 6 base frequencies at 6 unique locations:
2 in Framingham
3 in Natick
1 in Wellesley

So far I have monitored most communications on 463.9125
Most of the time (but I don't think always) these are simulcast on 451.300.
I have seen no transmissions on the other licensed freqs.

It is curious because 463.9125 is licensed to 100 Western Ave, Framingham (by the ADESA car auction).
But based on reception I don't think that's the transmitter location.

451.300 is licensed to 75 West ST, Natick (DPW HQ) but is very week in the immediate vicinity.

Some additional details:

Color Code 7
Identified Talk Groups:
16: Highway/Sanitation
18: Water/Sewer
20: LFNR (Land Facilities and Natural Resources)

There may be others although DSD+ ran for weeks straight in November without crashing (how often does that happen) and only found the 3.

I think you will need to be in Natick or immediately adjacent towns to be able to monitor.

Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts I'd appreciate it. It's been a fun learning experience for me trying to figure it out.

Thanks funny I just programed the DPW into my scanner this morning due to the storm coming and the old frq is making just loud audio sounds. I dont have DMR so I have to stick to listening to Framingham their DPW is 24/7 during snow.

This is a Capacity Plus system. The Western Ave site is a tower at Framingham Dpw. The other Framingham site is for coverage for Trash trucks to Millbury. The Wellesley site is for South Natick.

Thanks Dan.
Looks like I spoke to soon on the old frequencies.
While not normally in use, today they seemed to be simulcasting plow activity on the old 460.4125. Nothing on the old VHF lo (45.56).

Looks like Framingham DPW is off the 470.6750 just a lot of DMR? noise. Natick was strong on the 4125 but I was also getting some police dept out by Fitchburg/ Westminster ma. on the same Fq as Natick.

Any one know what PD it is?

It appears Framingham 470.6750 has gone to P25 with a NAC of 302 for plowing operations. As soon as I am certain I will send a database update.

Framingham DPW uses 470.675R NAC 302 for snow plowing and trash pickup. The Water Department uses 471.125R NAC 302 for their operations. Recently verified Natick DPW on 463.9125R using DMR Slot 1, Color 2, Talkgroup 16 with IDs as 1152 and 1156. The PD on 460.4125R PL 192.8 is Princeton.
