Digital Signal on 482.075

#1 Post by garys » 28 Jul 2018 13:22

I have that programmed in for Milton FD with a tone of 131.8. This morning while out and about I started to pick up a digital buzzing on the signal. I changed the audio type to "ALL" on the 536HP and listened. The signal came up again, but the scanner didn't recognize it as P25, DMR, or NXDN.

When I get back home, I'll set up my SDR/DSD+ computer on the frequency and see if it recognizes the signal.

I'll probably also set the 536HP to "digital only" as I'm starting to suspect that the "ALL" audio type doesn't work as I think it does.

Thinking it may be a problem up on Big Blue transmitter site. Was hearing noise on a bunch of frequencies from up there this morning, Randolph PD was getting very upset about it this morning as they had the same problem last weekend. Noise dissipated by the afternoon.

I'm inclined to think that you're right. I haven't heard anything on the frequency using my SDR computer. I've been running it for about three hours and not a blip.

This is likely ducting from WCPB, a full power Baltimore PBS station that is relocating from UHF TV 28 to UHF TV 16 (482-488 MHz) as part of the TV repack. I suspect you will be hearing a lot more of this interference.

WCPB is in phase 4. They better not be on 16 yet. They don't have any authorization to do so yet.

You are correct. It’s just a construction permit for 16; License is still on 28. Must not be them - Yet!
