North Smithfield Fire - Active on RISCON

#1 Post by shortwaver » 21 Jan 2019 13:30

A few days ago, I heard NSFD discussing switching to 800Mhz while on a call. I didn't know they were even on 800Mhz, but after checking, and some assistance from ECPS92, it appears that the 1968 TG for RISCON was marked as "future use" for NSFD. It appears that they are actively using it now. Judging by what I've heard so far, they seem to be using it to talk with portable units in locations not well covered by their 158.895 main frequency.

Thanks for the confirmation of use, I removed the Future, but it does seem they are still VHF for the time with the Portables on 800

I just heard Lincoln FD in Rhode Island on that same TG. I don't see them listed as active or future on that TG.

TG 1698 is confirmed as North Smithfield FD Dispatch. They have removed encryption on a few other TG's also but unknown what plans they have for them once they are up on RISCON fulltime. Lincoln FD has the NSFD TG for use on mutual aid runs. Its a "thing" in that area for all the FD's to have the surrounding FD TG's for mutual aid/large incident purposes. As a whole, that area (Lincoln, Cumberland, Woonsocket, NS, Smithfield and Central Falls) is referred to as NRIFD, Northern Rhode Island FIre District by the locals. Listening to any or all of those FD's along with fire intercity (154.280) you will hear all the FD's going to each other multiple times every day.

Happy listening !!!

Thanks for the info PFD1993. I didn't know about the shared TG so that will be good to know. I hope we don't see a trend go go encrypted.

1968. I know because I set a tone on my BCD-436 to let me know if/when NSFD used that new TG, and then later heard the tone, and LIncoln FD using it. Thanks

You and I were talking 1968, the other Poster, put in 1698, so I wanted to confirm with him as well.

Again Thanks for the info/update
BTW if you find others in use that have not been updated recently, Please send in a message
in the DB Submission forum at viewforum.php?f=69

It is always nice to know TG's are still in use and by whom

You are correct, they are now active on 1968. I will use the link to report any new use of a TG.

North Smithfield Fire uses the following TG's:
1968 Dispatch
1969 Fireground 1
1981 Admin

These are CONFIRMED as correct.

They have REMOVED ALL ENCRYPTION from the FD talkgroups.

Enjoy.....
