Okay well it's that Time again! Near-Fest VIII is this weekend and who is going? Yes I know the forecast is lousy so far but look back at other years and you'll see it was the same and it's often turned out much better than expected. Even years when it was nice up there and wasn't down here. Then again we have also had monsoons. Fact of the matter is rain never stops us so there is no use in complaining about it. Near-Fest will go on!! I will be there both days and am once again doing the Super 8 Motel NearFest deal of 65 bucks this year. Of course we will be closing Charbels outside the hotel on Friday night!
Otherwise everything below from last time is still pretty accurate, times, freqs etc.

So who will be up? and which day?? Remember no complaining about the possible weather....

Not making it this fall due to a prior engagement same weekend. Wish they'd nail down these weekends instead of bouncing them around. See you in the spring!

I'm planning to be there too. Both days if Friday's weather is OK (probably not). Saturday's weather is looking to be better than Friday. Not sure if I'll have my Segway (with the cargo saddle bags) or not.

Okay Near-Fest is getting real close....

If you do nothing else add the Epson W1ASS UHF repeater of 443.850R 88.5/CS . I suggest this every year and I'm always amazed at how many folks go out of range on Waltham and have nothing else till they get on the fairgrounds because they failed to do so. This repeater has mobile coverage almost right down to Boston and portable coverage on the fairgrounds.

For the folks with a car full of radios like myself the long list is below.
For portables on site:
The majority of folks hang on the WA1NVC portable repeater 927.5875R 100.0/131.8 HearClear
The rest on 446.200S 131.8
with a few cool kids on P25 448.775S Nac353

If you follow those few suggestions you will have guaranteed fun at NEAR-FEST!

I will be at the site by 7am on Friday in transit before that....

Full instructions below..

Will anyone be on site to re-channel my Moto GTX900 mobile? I need Georgetown added to it. If some one will be there on site to re channel it for me, i will need to know in order to bring proper tools to remove it for my Havis console in my truck.(not as easy as some may think). If so, what will be the best time to meet up with the correct party to re program this radio? Thank you in advance

I'm sure someone will be there, maybe ask Jeff. I think he's done some of the GTX's.

It could be programmed right in your console possibly not at Near-Fest but at some time. I myself am going to try and stay away from programming as I have missed many a hamfest face buried in a laptop. I will bring my windows stuff but I am going to leave my DOS stuff at home. I also have not done GTX's so I'm not really set up for them but I could add them to my DOS stuff and meet you some other time. I think Jeff does have a code plug set up for GTX's and may be able to assist better if you can arrange it with him. I will ask around before then too but I think a laptop could be brought to your car.

I could do it up there, and bring the laptop over to your truck if there's power nearby (or bring along my inverter). GTXs, having only 10 channels are not practical to keep a codeplug that anyone could use. As John said, I don't want to be behind a laptop the whole fest either, but I will do one or two. Just give me a call on the GEMOTO portable 900 repeater or 145.390 simplex

Yes i totaly understand not wanting to be stuck behind a computer the whole time. When you programmed it the first time i stood in line for over two hours. I will give you a shout and possibly set up a time that would be best for you. I only need one frequency so i dont know exactly how much work that entails. If you cant or dont want too i inderstand.
