900 day Revival

Post by JBP »

As many here may already know, '900 day' has returned, every Thursday those with amateur radio capabilities in the 33 centimeter (902-928 MHz) band are encourage get on the air. This activity is concentrated to the area's numerous 900 repeaters, http://nerepeaters.com/902.htm.

This is a good way for repeater owners and users alike to test the capabilities of this band, what repeaters can be hit from your house, work, what are the best spots on your commute? Even if you don't have a 900 MHz transmitter, most scanners cover that range, and we are just as interested in the transmitter footprint of machines in this upper end of amateur repeater spectrum. Give the band a try before foliage attenuation makes it's return.

This forum has been used in the past to spread the word on 900 and we look forward to this band becoming well used again.

I don't use any at the moment, but I am close too Wrentham and Hopkington. Thus allowing me to access the Near-900 net.

I heard KA1BBU on Boston, but wasn't able to talk at the time, was on the phone. I did make a little noise on Boston a short time later but no replies. Still listening and scanning. ;)

900 Day had a bit of a smaller turnout this week, so please remember to get on the air next Thursday! Here's the list of those that we did have:

A bit smaller turn out this week, but that was somewhat expected since I wasn't talking it up as much as the weeks past, plus the bad weather.

I tried on Boston and Marshfield a few times but got no responses. I could have been unreadable or just that nobody was listening at those times.

I'm right on the fringe of the Marshfield repeater from here and I'm always at work when this occurs. Otherwise, I'd give it a shot. If I am ever off from work I will most certainly make every effort to get on the list. :D

You might be able to get into Plymouth, Scott. My home antenna isn't so good, just a quarter wave mag mount and the dipole on the MTX9250. One of these days when the snow clears up I am going to have to improve the antenna situation and maybe get an MCS2000 both at home and mobile. I have a 3db Laird on the van. This spring all of them are getting permanent mounting.

I have a 900 MHz yagi near the top of the tower that's pointed at Marshfield. It was my understanding that Plymouth was not networked, but I've been out of the loop for sometime. I can definitely get into Plymouth from here, Marshfield is weaker but I can bring up the repeater.

No Plymouth is not in the 900 Near network but there is still activity there. I was going to Marshfield today and would have gotten on from down there today but when I hit bumper to bumper traffic I turned around. Another day I will, gotta go to Gerard's.

I was on Marshfield for about a half hour, made a few calls and did get an answer from someone who just was not intelligible. This was around 2pm. I won't make it out there, back to work now and I'll sleep until noon.
