Maine Game Wardens

#1 Post by garys » 11 Oct 2018 16:11

While cruising up to Portland yesterday, I found the Maine Game Wardens South channel (155.970) is now digital with a NAC of 527. The Wiki shows it as CSQ. That's if the frequency is still used by the Game Wardens.

On a slightly related topic, what Talk Groups on the MSCOMMNET system are good to listen to for the Forestry Service?

Finally, listening to the Portland P25 trunk, I saw 1125 and 1145 with police type radio traffic. I didn't have time to try to figure out who it was, but folks up there might want to listen.

I hadn't thought of adding 155.970 into my radio after the switch to MSCOMMNET. Most IFW TGs are encrypted. Forest service is dispatched on the Zone primary channels, I have very rarely heard any of the Forresty TGs active.

On the Portland System I have 1145 as Portland Parking Enforcement and 1125 as Unknown but in the range of DPW talkgroups.

That fits what the traffic that I heard. DPW was pretty active, as were police of course. FD and EMS were still active on the analog system.

Given the number of TGs built into the system, it's sometimes surprising how little traffic there is. TG 711 is pretty active as is the Troop G Car to Car. MEMA was doing radio tests with various agencies on 1617. Most of the other TGs were pretty quiet though.

garys, just for the heck of it, double check your programming of that frequency. The old "Game Warden NORTH" of 154.725 is used with a NAC of 527 by Stafford County Sheriff, NH. I know you referenced the frequency specifically (155.970), but it just struck me as really coincidental that you picked up radio traffic on the companion channel with the same NAC. Wondering if it's possible that during programming you transposed the frequencies, have "Game Warden South" actually programmed as 154.725, and you picked up Stafford County?

That's a good thought, Chris. Next time I'm up that way, I'll pay close attention to the traffic to see if it matches the Stafford County traffic.

Thanks.
