Typically, north shore EMS units will hail CMed on Med-42, and Merrimack Valley units utilize Med-4. Depending on the priority they will then be assigned a channel; the north shore USUALLY uses the two number channels and valley USUALY will use the single number channels, just based on the location of the towers. Around 2013 when everything transitioned to narrowband, CMed made this change to lighten the radio traffic into the Lawrence CMed center as they had more frequencies become available. Additionally, Med-9 is exclusively used by the non transporting ALS units from the Lowell General Hospital. CMed dispatches Lowell units for Tyngsboro and Tewksbury, as they are dispatched by Trinity EMS for all other calls (While Lawrence General units are dispatched by LGH Dispatchers). Lowell ALS will hail CMed on Med 9 for a med channel. CMed reserves Med-1 for priority entry notes made by the Lowell and Lawrence ALS units.
