Amateur Radio REACT -- Anybody Monitoring?!
Those of you remember the old CB days with Channel 9 (and other local channels) monitoring for emergencies? Of course cell phones had yet to become a consumer service, so it was either land line telephone or some sort of radio system to call for help -- Citizen Band Radio was the choice at that time...

Does Anyone Ever Use VHF FM Simplex Any More?
So does anyone ever use VHF simplex any more or is everyone just using low powered portables via the repeater. In the Springfield MA area, a simplex emergency net is held every Wednesday around 2000 hrs local on 146.42 (not .52), so amateurs can check out how well they could operate if all the local...

Milcom Blog Military Mode S Missing Hex Codes
Please refer to the presentation at: http://mt-milcom.blogspot.com/2015/08/mode-s-address-holes.html IMHO some these may be related to remote piloted vehicles. For those of you next to military training ranges and air spaces it might be worth your effort to take the lists posted and check your data ...

There's quite a difference in performance. Prior to shut down page loads were VERY, VERY slow. Today VERY, VERY fast! Wondering if there's something on the internet that was causing part of the problem? Glad to see the site back in operation!!! I know the owner and the moderators work very hard to m...

I've set up the text log to dump every one minute to the same file that will change at the end of the day. When I check the log it only has multiple entries of the screen columns e.g. ADS Reg. New Purchase Unable to Get Any Mode S Software to Run!
Recently purchased the Noo Elect R820T & DVB-T NESDR mini. The SDR Sharp software works fine and I can tune in individual stations without issues. The issue is how to install the plug in (and I would assume additional software) that allows the unit to decode mode S. Ideally I'd like to use the plug ...

"Wow, got to admit for a price just a bit more than a large cup of coffee, this guide is packed with concise frequency information that one can readily use. It also provides a concise explanation of the organization of the Air Route Traffic Control Centers. As a daily monitor of milcom/milair and ci...

MTARA's Soapstone Mountain Repeater Moved
Apparently the Mt Tom Amateur Repeater Association's 147.00 mhz Repeater, on Soapstone Mountain in CT has been moved to a new site in Granville, MA. Should be interesting to see what coverage is obtained from that location, especially to the border areas of CT and everything south/southwest of Inter...

126.225 Transmitter Location?
Interestingly today at home with a simple portable antenna on the back of the BCD 996T I'm picking up the base side (as well as the aircraft side) of Boston ARTCC. Additionally the base side of 370.9 is also being heard.

RACES in WMass has very little community participation. Southwick is organized, Springfield has three hams in the Emergency Management EOC, and couple of other towns utilize the amateur radio members to assist in their EOC or shelter operations. At least in WMass the RACES program never really got o...

Westover Metropolitan Airport Services "Metro Air Service" (the civilian side of the field) now has a new frequency for UNICOM: 122.95 Aircraft utilize this frequency to contact the fuel truck and/or for aircraft taxi/parking assistance. Looks like Aviation Spectrum Resources Inc, coordinated the li...
