Re: 06/27/22 DX
In all of my tower antenna changes I have unwittingly taken myself out of the low band DX chasing. Interesting that it's in today as it is usually a spring/fall thing. Another issue here is the massive amount of man-made interference I deal with. Looking at the 42 MHz band with an SDR is amazing, an...

Re: Mid Cape Newbie
While not portable obviously, the BCT15X is a rock solid scanner. I still use one to this day. I don't have any experience with the 346XT (I don't think, I've had so many of them over the years I can't remember) but I'm sure someone can comment on its performance. Sounds like you're on the right tra...

Re: Mid Cape Newbie
I have both the 325P2 and BCD436HP. Both are great radios. The latter gives you the added advantage of using the Radio Reference (radioreference.com) database while traveling. Locally I use my own scan-lists for it so I can customize them. Having no Phase 2 activity to go on, it is my understanding ...

Re: Mid Cape Newbie
If you are just giving the hobby a test drive I'd proceed as Jeff suggests. Once you believe you will be enjoying it for the long haul, in about two years the bulk of Cape Cod public safety departments will be migrating to the new statewide APCO P25 system known as CoMIRS. Some of the traffic on tha...

Re: Different Sound on Some FD Talkgroups
Makes sense, as I'm hearing it as far as I can tell exclusively on the FD's for which BCSO provides dispatch services.

TG 38800, Barnstable County "Hotline"/GBC/Etc. also sounds like this as well.

Re: Different Sound on Some FD Talkgroups
I realized I didn't clearly define them as fire departments, just to clarify. I don't normally monitor the environmental police so can't comment on those.

Different Sound on Some FD Talkgroups
I'm noticing that some TG's on MSP Zone 04 are sounding a little different today, Mashpee and now Wellfleet. Others not as of yet, but they sound like that "semi-P25" sound for lack of a better definition, as some of the MSP consoles do. These are FD's that are dispatched by Barnstable County, so "s...

Re: 05/25/22 DX?
My opening here seems to be in all directions, but nothing major. Goffstown NH PD 155.190 $827 strong, not seeing any activity from Long Island, but other signals normally seen in that general direction appear stronger than normal.

Very cool. I'm sure it was a lot of fun, heard the weather was not a lot of fun! I remember making the trip once; hopefully again soon.

Re: Network 178 Site 16 NXDN System
I neglected to note in the first email that the neighbor list shows as 1, 2, and 3, which would be South Yarmouth, Mashpee, and Plymouth, so it's down my way somewhere most likely.

Network 178 Site 16 NXDN System
Well it has to be a Bearcom system but we only go up to Site 14 in the world famous Wiki. I have a CC of 471.2875, not very strong here in Marstons Mills, and yes it's a Sunday so not much talkgroup activity. The only one I'm seeing so far is 50350, which should be the town of Yarmouth Transfer Stat...

Re: Call Sign Nostalgia
Numerous police departments on Cape Cod still do it, to include Barnstable (374), Sandwich (755), Bourne (407), and Yarmouth (241). Those are normally conventional 800 MHz departments, but 2 of them are using the MSP Zone 04 system due to system issues. As I recall there are also some departments th...

Re: 4/25 DX
Still cranking from my "auxiliary location" but I'm guessing it'll end soon, rain coming across on the radar which will kill it, but it looked like a real good one. Primarily to the north from here but did hear some NY activity on 154.845 156.7 as well.

Re: 4/25 DX
All NOAA frequencies are showing strong signals right now as well. Also one of the strongest signals I've seen from MSCOMMNET to date on 160.950, which appears to be Site 61 in York County.

4/25 DX
Nice band opening to the north, arriving a little too late to get into it, but lots of P25 from NH and signals out of Maine as well.

Re: 153.1925 CC8
The "triage" transmissions are underway again. Gary you're right; just seems like an under-use of a system that had to cost some $$ to upgrade to, so there must be more to it than meets the eye. Investigating further but it is likely Nantucket Cottage Hospital. I'd still say unconfirmed as of yet bu...
