3/2 CHP

CHP extremely strong here starting late morning and continuing as I type this. I finally built a favorites list for them; here are some loggings thus far today. 39.720 C 162.2 California Highway Patrol (CHP) Border Division - Orange County Communications Center 39.220 C 192.8 California Highway Patr...

Re: American Airlines 94 In Flight Emergency

I've seen videos online where they perform this in the simulator, the procedure on how to fly without a windshield. It's fascinating stuff. Similar to how to fly should the side window pop open. They were at or close to cruising altitude as they were about 225 NM east of me when they called it in a...

Safely on the ground. It will be interesting to find out what caused the cracked windshield.

He's making the turn over Beverly for final approach now. Can still hear him on 126.5 but weak; lost him on my ADSB at about 2151.

I have them live on my ADS-B system. Looks like ADSB Exchange data may be delayed as the positions aren't the same.

American Airlines 94 In Flight Emergency

Re: 152.5400 DMR

Yeah, I saw the NH license, ASSumed it was local, and went from there. Anyway, I think the bands were a bit open last night due to the weather changes. Will have another looksie later.

In other stories, I doubt I had a tropo duct open between here and Nevada. That would be something... xD

152.5400 DMR

Looks like I originally found this on in July of 2022 during a band opening. When it keys up for a brief burst of data periodically it also has a companion just up the band at 152.5125, which is this system according to the Wiki: https://www.snewiki.com/wiki/index.php/Data_Radio_Management_Company W...

Re: 2/25/24 Low Band

Ditto, I have two Airspy setups going, one is doing a screen scan between 42-43 MHz and the other is covering 30-50 MHz. Seems like the 39 MHz stuff has faded at this point, had range control on 30.450 earlier today but not hearing it now either.

2/25/24 Low Band

Multiple California Highway Patrol stations on 39 and 42 MHz bands right now. Bands to seem to be up and down a bit but give it a bit of time and you'll find them.

Re: Scan New England Talkgroup on TGIF Network

Not sure what's going on. I had a power failure during the storm last week and haven't used my Openspot4 since. It doesn't appear to be able to stay connected to my mesh network. I'm going to have to dig into this when possible and try to find a solution. Hopefully it didn't suffer any damage but it...

Re: short wave

If you can find a portable that allows for an external antenna connection, you could use one of the YouLoop antennas from Airspy. They are inexpensive and loop antennas are excellent for nulling out sources of interference. There is a recent model of the infamous Malahit receiver that is apparently ...

Re: Analog on the SDS100

The key to good analog reception is understanding how to manipulate the filter settings, and in some cases the IFX setting. I usually recommend turning the filter OFF for any analog reception. The Global Auto Filter in the settings menu is a good place to start. It will be set to Normal if you haven...

Band has been fairly open to the north actually since last evening. Receiving multiple NH departments and a general lift on UHF to the north. Hopefully the brief warm spell we are about to enter will bring more.

Re: External Antenna for 120-460 MHz

Chuck has a great location that allows him to use preamps without any issues. I would caution in a lot of cases however to be careful. Preamps can make a marginal situation a lot worse. You say you're in the middle of nowhere which is a plus, but does that also mean in relation to strong transmitter...

Re: Hamcation 2024 February 9-11, 2024 in beautiful Orlando, Florida

Wish I was going. For those of you driving from here that aren't familiar with this, consider doing yourself a considerable favor after you get over the Delaware Memorial Bridge and into Delaware. Look for the exit for Route 13 South. Once you get on it you'll actually pass HRO Delaware which is in ...
