Re: 10/21/21 VHF-HI

Somewhat of a fade on UHF right now, from here anyway....still have what is normally the strongest NYPD signal for me, 476.5875 136.5, but everything else is for the moment down. Checked the rest of the T band to include the 500-503 and 506-509 ranges, which are heard from here under good conditions...

There is a significant band opening in progress...guessing you're hearing another signal on the same frequency.

Pretty good band opening from where I sit right now, heard Coast Guard Sector Virginia on Marine CH16 (156.800) a short time ago. Not a lot of time to search today but it's out there if anyone's looking!

Re: NEAR-Fest is not Optional!!! October 15th & 16th 2021

Who is going up on Friday? It's my plan to be there by 0900 or shortly thereafter. Hoping to see and re-see some of you folks. Maybe we should arrange a time for a get together. John I'm guessing you and your group will be in the usual spot so I'll know where to find you. Friday is my only possible ...

Arinst Dreamkit Standalone SDR

I took an early adopter leap and bought this one for portable use. Pretty cool out of the box but in many ways a definite work in progress. Hopefully they will add the capability of frequency steps and a "snap to step". The display is beautiful but the battery only lasts a few hours. There is a mini...

Re: DMR Systems and Affiliations to Sites

Scott, how hard is SDRTrunk to set up? I use mostly DSDPLus, but wouldn't be against trying other software. SDRTrunk is Java based. Make sure your Java is up to date. Then you'll want to download an Alpha version of the software. Here's the link: https://github.com/DSheirer/sdrtrunk/releases/tag/v0...

DMR Systems and Affiliations to Sites

I have been spending some background time cataloging the use of some of the DMR Con+ systems here on the cape, primarily Network 134 (ICE) Site 12. As an aside I am using SDRTrunk to do this. As I mentioned in another thread this app is simply outstanding in its ability to display, log, and demodula...

Boy the bands have been open to the north lately. Same MSCOMMNET system as I monitored the other night; caught one of the voice channels 155.460 $4DE. Site 77 Spruce Mountain, very strong here. NHSP Troop B 154.935 $826 extremely strong as well.

Re: Direct Communications on a Trunked System

I'm guessing they were using one of the conventional fireground frequencies. Simplex short range. I'm trying to locate them actually; maybe someone will come in and answer. I'm not sure I even have them programmed into my scanlists. They are in the 851 to 854 MHz range.

No experience with them but the old Mon 58's used to have an optional ground plane kit. They were quite good base antennas when used with one. Might help!

Murphy, Give this a try. https://www.theantennafarm.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1289_1243&products_id=7530 This is a good idea but will only work with the Larsen antenna, assuming it is NMO, and it will also require a male N to female "something" and some other coax. Murph, i...

Any of them. It's going to come down to the antennas more than anything else. I'm not saying that a better ground plane under the antennas is going to put you over the top, but it ain't gonna hurt either. On another note entirely, maybe @ecps92 will chime in...as I recall he has an indoor beam that ...

I've heard them a few times after my initial post. Their moms would have made them wash their mouths out with soap...unless of course they taught them the words...
