What time of day are you planning on operating? If available I do have a DMR radio on 441.000 simplex in addition to 2m.

99% of my operations are simplex - mobile to mobile - with the family. Also use an HT while out on the property back to the house.

Just ordered an ICOM FR6000 IDAS UHF repeater for work today as part of the narrow band conversion process. It was only $150 more than a similar analog repeater but it will give us analog now and digital capability when we need it in the future. Once I get our business license updated to include dig...

The Yaesu FRG-7 (usually around $250 used) is one of my favorites. That was one of my first SW radios and I'd like to pick up another one. It is all analog so you don't get any of the annoying microprocessor hash with a digital unit. Great sound comes out of its speaker, too.

Something I posted on the GEMOTO list...
Just an FYI if anyone is looking for another source for 900 MHz radios:
<http://www.usedradio.com/product91.html>
I've dealt with these folks quite a bit and they are very good to deal with. I am sure you could get the price down via a group buy.

So you can RX pretty decent with a most portable devices. On an average day, about how far away could you hear? I understand there are different variables that play into affect, but typically? Thanks. *Some* portables work well, others are junk. My experience with portables is with the Sony ICF-201...

A. I am looking toward on a longwire antenna, however I've read that an antenna can overpower a receiver. How exactly would this happen, and how can I avoid this? The YB300 has a local/ DX switch. Portable receivers tend to have a very sensitive front end preamplifier. This is done to make up for s...

I'm not having the issue here on a regular basis, but I have indeed noticed that it occurs. I think what happens in my case is that I enter the message board, and then leave without viewing anything. When I return, if there's nothing posted since the last time I logged in I'll get the no new messag...

Just a heads up... Hearing lots of DX WX stations at the moment. 162.500 is booming in from the NY/PA area. Also, 162.550 (Central MA) and 162.475 (Hartford) were down for a while and you could hear multiple weak DX stations as well.
