Trip Out West

I had to go out to Northampton on business this morning. Good opportunity to do some scanning. Unfortunately the timing of everything else I have to do today didn't allow me to sit around with my SDR set up an listen for some other systems I'm interested in figuring out. Here's what I observed. WEST...

Re: DHART Helicopter VT 461.2250 146.2

NXDN Emissions Designators start with 4K. Here is a list of all Emissions Designators at Radio Reference. https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Emission_Designator Is there a specific emission designator for NXDN or is it just a generic “narrowband digital voice emissions” type thing? I’ve been ...

If the dispatcher talks with a funny accent and ends every transmission with "K" we'll know it Joisey. ;)

There's also a Route 35 in Danvers and Peabody, next to Middleton, could be a mispronunciation.

Re: 158.145 DMR CC1

Utilities seem to use more data than voice. Even Boston Water and Sewer mostly uses their UHF channels for AVL with some voice now and then. Ironically, Stoughton uses only one slot and doesn't do any data on their VHF channel. I'd guess that they don't even know that there is a second slot availabl...

Re: 158.145 DMR CC1

There seems to be a lot of this going around these days. 451.49375 is still not to be found on the FCC site with anything even close to a site in MA. It's still active and shows three channels, but I've had no luck in identifying them.

Re: Quincy PD Channel 3

I know, but it interferes with my listening enjoyment! ;)

That said, I've noticed that P25 conventional signal strength is much better than analog. That's on three different generations of Uniden scanners, so it's pretty consistent.

Re: Quincy PD Channel 3

That radio upgrade seems to be moving along rather quickly. Which is nice for a change. Maybe it's me, but the signal strength on police and fire seems way down from what it was, even taking narrow banding into account. I think we're going to see some interesting changes, and not just in Quincy, ove...

Quincy PD Channel 3

This was being used a an event channel at what seemed to be a 9-11 memorial service. Used in analog mode. Which also brought me to the Wiki page for Norfolk County police agencies where I saw that they have P25 versions of the 453 Mhz channels.

Time for a scanner programming update!

Weight is recorded in Kilograms, because medications are administered in milligrams or micrograms per Kilogram. Some of them at least.

That's interesting. Maybe they'll use it more than Quincy? IIRC, the transmitter is on the smaller tower on Ricciuti Drive, so there should be good coverage.

463.475 is an analog simulcast of the talkgroup they have on 178-1. So it is not part of that NXDN system, it's something else entirely.

Re: 463.475 CSQ (maybe?)

Has 463.475 been added to Site 1? If not, why are you hearing the same traffic on Site 1 and that frequency? Or am I missing something obvious? I've confirmed this to be Yarmouth Department of Natural Resources. More traffic this morning on the frequency, and it dawned on me that Yarmouth DNR is on ...

Re: 463.475 CSQ (maybe?)

The mention of a boat and DNR makes me think it might be someone talking about a Department (or Division) of Natural Resources. MA has a DCR and Rhode Island calls theirs something else now. Maybe a town down there has a DNR and someone is talking about it. As to the DNR comment, that crossed my min...

Re: Shark Spotters

On ADSB exchange there is a plane flying a pattern over the water just off of Sandwich. Earlier it was flying a pattern from the tip of the Cape north out to the Stellwagen Bank.

My guess is that it's doing some sort of shark watch flight. Tail number is N300LF if anyone it interested.

A few months ago in a class I used a Beverly Hillbillies reference. The kid I was talking to had zero idea what I was talking to. Re: Ham operator gets shut down by insulin pump.

Mike, do you have a link to the case law? I'm not being a wise guy (for once). I'm surprised that the FCC would try to usurp a contract between two private parties. They actually don't. That insulin pump is a part 15 device, which means it is up to the user of that device to resolve issues of interf...

Re: Ham operator gets shut down by insulin pump.

The FCC has no standing to get involved. The HOA agreement is a contract, and once he signed it, he was bound by the terms laid out. This is a contract dispute, pure and simple. It's a good example of why people should avoid living in places with HOA agreements in place. What stands out to me is the...

I was hearing it in Brockton as well. Events 1 was on MSP operations. "PMC Command" talking to PMCxx telling them to wrap things up or move to other locations.
