Re: NEAR-FestXXXIII will be held on April 28th and 29th 2023 not its traditional date
That's a very nice offer, John. Based on past experience, a tent would be nice to have. I plan to get up there early on Friday morning and leave late. I just have so much junk that's collected over the years. Not all ham, but that's never been an issue at NEAR FEST. If you'd like to pull into the GE...

Odd traffic on TG 328. I identified it as a two company in 2019, but right now I'm hearing what sounds like an active shooter drill on it. They don't seem to be using standard ICS callsigns or nomenclature.
I heard it on the Foxborough site, but it's likely on others as well.

Sorry Mike. I hit the wrong button and deleted your post when i meant to do something else.
Anyway, last time I was up there, they were on UHF I think.

Thanks.

P25 NAC 470. Mix of clear and encrypted traffic. TG: 1. Signal is very good into my QTH, but that doesn't mean all that much as it's VHF. There was traffic regarding a transformer down and waiting for DPW to assess the damage. My guess is security or PD. Nothing at the FCC as far as license. At leas...

Re: 463.2375 CC5
If you set it up as "conventional" and not trunked, you'll see all of the information. Which makes no sense to me, but that's how DSD+ handles it. It seems, although I'm not 100% sure, that the same traffic is carried on both active sites. DSD+ is not showing me Sites, but 464.0375 is chan...

Re: 463.2375 CC5
I misread that as 461.3000. Need new glasses, I'll add that to my to do list. I see Norwood in the wiki as CC10, for 461.3500 which might be why it is weak to Weymouth or both using the same CC Yes in the FCC for Brockton School as well as the SNE FCCDB https://www.scan-ne.net/sne/app.php/nefd https...

Re: 463.2375 CC5
That was my first thought, so I listened on 463.8875 and 463.8875, but there was no activity on either. The Wiki shows 463.8875 as shared with Emergency Management. On another note, as with the City of Quincy trunk, the two sites are OFT and DSD+ can only decode them in what I call "Conventiona...

I know that Brockton Public Schools uses this frequency, but this is operating as a Cap+ system. Also shows as Site 2 with Neighbor List 1, 3, 4. Maybe reconfigured as networked One Frequency Trunk sites. Talk Groups are 100 and 102. TG 102 has school bus or special needs van traffic. Definitely sha...

Re: Smithfield RI Fire
I worked in public safety for 35 years, part of that doing radio work. I'm familiar with the issues including under funding equipment. Thanks for your insights. My experience with an FD "trying" P25, as an company officer, was far less than positive. Areas where analog coverage was "n...

Re: Smithfield RI Fire
I've yet to find a system that lost coverage when they moved to digital. Well, unless you count Providence when they moved from VHF to RISCON, but that's a horse of a different color. Seriously, a lot of police departments south of Boston have transitioned to P25. Most of them were either unhearable...

Re: BCD996p2
You're welcome. Let us know if you're consistently able to hear traffic. You didn't mention if you're using the scanner mobile or base station. Keep in mind that if you're using it at a fixed location and not using an external antenna, moving the scanner a few inches can change your reception dramat...

Re: Favorite SHTF frequencies in NE
The last I knew, and Bill can probably confirm, every FEMA frequency was encrypted. Also, FEMA will not be on the ground for a minimum of 48 hours and can take up to 96 hours to get to a scene. That's once the President authorizes a state of emergency. MEMA will likely be faster, but what they can p...

Re: BCD996p2
It will program and receive fine. The last digit doesn't display, but it will program. The issue you might run into, depending on where you are, is simulcast distortion. All scanners with the exception of the SDS series are susceptible to simulcast distortion on systems like CSP, RISCON, and the upc...

Re: New City Of Boston 800 Trunk
I listened on my way up to Bedford and back on I-95. I got good signal from about Route 138 up to Highland Street in Needham. No voice, but the control channel was 859.9375. Signal was five bars on the SDS200 and then dropped off quickly and was gone. Also, a sort of dead spot near the House of Corr...

I'm going to end up programming all of the frequencies in and taking a field trip up to the Blue Hills to see what I can see. Just a matter of when. Maybe Thursday if nothing intervenes.

Re: Concord? on 155.6250
That's Concord. They've always had a very good signal, even well into MA. A lot of NH agencies were known to have much more transmitter power than they really needed. Back when there were agencies on the same frequencies in MA, the problems were severed. Capitol Area dispatch out of Concord FD inter...

Re: New City Of Boston 800 Trunk
Bellevue Hill is only a few miles from where you were. Lagrange and Washington Streets pretty much. IIRC, the antenna site is on one of the water towers up there. Pretty much line of site to where you were. I doubt it's Bellevue Hill. I think it may be more a temporary setup somewhere for configurat...
