Scott... Good luck with the move. Just as an FYI, something I noticed in the last 30 minutes that seemed 'odd'. I was logged onto the 'old' site for a bit, and exchanged a couple PM's with another user. When I went back to check for a response, I received a message that said to use the 'new' site. W...

What frequency were you picking them up on, Chief? Is this on an old low band frequency, or UHF?

Re: NEAR-FEST who is going???

Weather is looking really nice for both days. I'll be up there bright and early on Friday morning and will be sticking around until mid-afternoon.

Hope to see many of you there!

I can confirm the signals from the south and southwest. Picking up USCG Sector Southeast New England and USCG Sector Long Island Sound on a handheld in the house on 156.800, with Sector SE New England sounding like they are next door. Sector SE New England was calling the cutter 'Juniper', but no re...

I'm planning to head up Friday morning, if the weather holds. Seems like the outlook up north is getting better.

If it's crap on Friday, I'll be there first thing Saturday morning. I missed the May event due to some silly surgery, and I've been waiting for October for months!

I'm heading to Quonset on whichever will be the best weather day. However, my focus will be on photography, not radio. I would love to hook up with and connect with other listeners and members of this group to say 'hello'!

I'm using a commercially built G5RV up at about 60 feet. This is the kind that has ~30' of twinlead coming into a balun, which then has RG-8X coax coming into the shack. I'm using an LDG AT-7000 auto-tuner and it covers all bands, no sweat. Works very well with my IC-7000. Tons of folks complain abo...

Out of curiosity, did you have the CTSP P-25 stuff programmed into the PSR-500, or were you just searching? I have that radio and I'm trying to decide whether to program more 'DX' type stuff into it for band openings, or just start searching...

What's required to start a new 'section' of the Wiki? Is this something that any user can do, or does a Moderator need to do this? Good list, and I concur that I can hear planes working Ottawa, Philly, and sometimes Portland, ME from my house when they are at 20K+ altitudes. And I regularly hear Mil...

It's a mobile or portable antenna, being used indoors. As the comments below the video indicate, it's a big compromise. Anything you can get outdoors will be better than something indoors, and your family (and you) will be safer.

As far as your first question goes, RG-58 would be 'OK' for HF frequencies, but RG-8X isn't much more money and is a better cable. For short runs, though, RG-58 would probably be fine. For question #2, you will need to do an RF safety study. There should be info in the training manuals you used when...
