I don't follow hockey, but I work with a hockey fanatic. He says that this was the last year the Bruins could trade Thornton without his approval. Also, the Bruin's strategy of thinking that other teams would have to let a lot of talent go to conform with the salary cap didn't work out. I guess we w...

Nor can the dispatcher, unless they are sworn law enforcement officers, do anything with prisoners. Since the barracks are also lock ups, someone with police powers has to be there to act as a jailer.

To answer your original question, no. They are not digital. At least they weren't about 10:30 Friday night when I was on the Mass Turnpike and heard them.

I think that the T is testing out the new AVL system on RIDE vehicles. I've also seen similar antennas on buses. Presumably the trains don't need it! <G>

I meant the one operated by the MBTA in eastern MA. Actually, the T contracts out, but they used to have a UHF-T channel that I think was data. They now use an 800 Mhz frequency for that. At least I think so.

I'm pretty sure that they went to 800 Mhz, but I can't seem to locate the frequency. Anyone know?

Thanks,

It looks like you would put it on a mini mast mounted on your bumper. Kenny, I'd send the link to Eliot and ask him if he can put them on all of the trucks! <G>

I'm wondering how you drill for Bird Flu? Usually things like this are done as a table top excercise, not with people going out in the field doing things.

It could be for WiFi, or it could be for cellular. It's also possible that they are satellite receivers only, but I doubt it.

Sorry to hear you're offended, but as a Ham operator for 25+ years, I've never been tremendously impressed with the efforts of Hams in aiding public safety. I know that Hams provide (or did at one time) support comms to the Red Cross at events like the Marathon, but I'm less confident in their abili...

. Those that had others such as 2067s or 780/785s were personal scanners that they had installed in their cars. This is incorrect. First 760s and then 2066s were installed by the radio shop as part of the communications packages. Scott is correct about the like for like swap. The 785s and 780s curr...

I think the fire service is a bit ahead on this because they routinely use mutual aid and the police don't. The radio stuff is a new wrinkle and actually the police were ahead on the technology, if not the operational part, for many years. Police mobiles and portables had the ability to speak to dif...

Mike, I can send you the code for an entire web page that has thumbnails if you want. Writing HTML isn't difficult, it's just tedious and time consuming. If you want to get fancier, you're best off to buy one of the commercially available programs. Unless there are free ones, which there probably ar...

Pretty neat. I do have two suggestions though. First, if you have some sort of photo software like Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop, resize the pictures. It appears that the scans you did are print quality. That means that file sizes are huge and take a long time to load. Resize to something like 5...

I really like mine. It's a lot like the 785, but personally I think the sensitivity, display, and audio are better. Other people tell me that there is no difference, but to me it seems a bit better than the 785. I guess it depend on what you are going to do with it. My 796 is in my truck right now, ...

I don't think that they use control points any longer. Control points were originally intended to be sort of like Metro Fire. Kenny, A certain EMS agency with which we are both passingly familiar has the U-TAC frequencies programmed in the newer portables.
