Upcoming Website Changes

#1 Post by Scott » 23 Feb 2018 09:15

Scan New England will be changing to a different message forum software in the very near future, possibly as early as this coming weekend if time allows. During this migration the following will take place.

1. The existing forums will be inaccessible. This may last for a few days. I have already done a test run of this and I think barring any issues a few days will suffice.
2. The Wiki will remain online and accessible.
3. The NEFD (which badly needs updating) and SNE Logbook will remain accessible.
4. I will try to provide updates on progress in the message that advises users that the forum is offline.
5. If for any reason the migration flat-out fails (it didn't the first time) the current setup will continue to function fine so nothing is going to be lost in the process.
6. Once the migration is complete all users should be able to log into the new system with their current credentials and continue to use the website in the normal manner.

Why is this happening?

1. The current vBulletin software has been causing some issues with my webhost, resulting in locked files, an inability to post new messages in the forums, and having to shut down email notifications.
2. The cost to upgrade to vBulletin 5 is expensive.
3. The setup being switched to has an extremely active community of developers, extension and modification writers, and end-users, as does vBulletin, but the price is right. It's tried and true, open source, free software.

I will post here again when the system is close to going offline and you will see an offline message as stated above when it is. If you have any questions or concerns please post below. Thanks.
Scott
