Progress Report

Post by Scott »

As of now, we are converted to the new message forum system. The front page of the website has been modified to provide links here. You wouldn't be here otherwise! The old message board has been turned off. My plans are as follows:

1. Eat breakfast.
2. Convert the old message board to archive form.
3. Turn on the archive message board.
4. Have a Guinness.

Enjoy!

John, thanks a million]Very very nice Scott. Haha...I'm a newbie....I love it.[/QUOTE]

Thanks...sorry for the "newbie" status. We all get that until we ascend to the 10 post level.

Status report:

The archives are now converted and available. I need to run out for a while but will continue to work when I get back. The bulk of the "critical" stuff is done.

If anyone is getting Joe's error, try clearing your cache and starting over. The cookies also convert during this process. It's looking at you as a registered user and well, there aren't any registered users anymore as it's an archive.

Clearing your cache should do the trick. It did during beta testing.

Thanks. I still have more work to do, but as stated earlier the critical stuff is done. The final step will be the Xoops upgrade, which will happen "when it happens". John and I will get together on that at his convenience. There is no hurry, but at least the option is now available to do so. I am very pleased with VBulletin; I hope you'll all agree. I think you will.

I'm still getting this error after clearing my cache.

Jeff,

Delete your cookies, and then close all instances of IE.
Make sure IE is definatley not running in the background
(task manager IEXPLORER.EXE should not be on the applications list).

For some reason, this is what worked for me.

Thanks Mike, it's working now. I hadn't cleared the cookies before, just the temporary internet files.

thanks for the work you guys do ....on and off the board.... i'm thinking alot of the members are civil servants and such!
i still think there are fed. grants for this kind of stuff, but i'm sure they would just screw it up, like they're doing on the south coast of the U.S.

This comment is most certainly off topic, but seeing how you posted it, I must say that it really irritates the crap out of me. Who are you to say that it's screwed up? Can you offer any other example(s) of similar widespread destruction and strife in the United States? I think not.

God forbid that it happens again, but it almost certainly will at some point. It is a shame to do this at the expense of tens of thousands of people, but we will learn from this and respond better the next time.

This situation is unprecedented and should not be judged...by anyone. Those that matter will have their "after action" meetings and see what went wrong, and what went right.

Once again, the media is glamourizing most of the stuff that is going wrong, and very little of the stuff that is going right.

And let us not forget those who were trying their damndest to rescue refugees...and were being sniped at by some incredible pieces of **** on the ground.

Enough said.

I think you're missing my point. Maybe you should re-read my message. If you're insinuating that I was referring to you, you're WAY off base. I was referring to the idiots on the ground taking shots at rescue helicopters, and thereby holding up the entire operation.

I suppose the government is to blame for that too. Sheesh. This little sidebar will go no further. If you have a problem with me, e-mail me privately or PM me.

Getting back on topic, Scott and I made good progress on the new Xoops site today. We have a nice menu system, a theme that matches the message board, a new layout, and yes, a new and improved version of the shoutbox. (on a trial basis)
Shoutbox guidelines will be in the FAQ.
Stay tuned!

REMINDER: :pats: Thursday night!
