Search ignores common words - like "Boston" and "fire"

Post by n1zyy »

I just tried a search here on the forum for "boston fire" and it ignored both words:
The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: boston fire.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.
I tried to narrow it down with "boston fire p25," only to realize that phpBB still strips the common words out, so it was as if I had just searched the forum for "p25" on its own.

I don't suppose there's a "Don't be quite so silly" option you can check in the admin UI or something?

A bit clunky but you can use a Google search using "Site:" to limit results to SNE. It takes a bit more scrolling through results but may work for you.
SITE: scan-ne.net "boston fire" "P25"
or something like that.

Try these, you'll get different results for each google search.

Boston fire site:www.scannewengland.net
Boston fire site:www.scan-ne.net
Boston fire site:www.snewiki.com

I noticed this years ago search results were not the same, Good luck.

Try it now; it appears to be fixed. This looks like an oversight on my part, back to the days where I ran the website. I had to change a setting and then re-index the database. But, I just did a search on Boston Fire and it worked.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
