10/29 DX

Post by Scott »

From here on the Cape I am hearing every NOAA weather transmitter right now, Environment Canada was starting to make an appearance on 161.775, and lots of signals on VHF-HI as I type this, several strong P25 signals from NH. Looks like a good night forming up. Back later this evening to check further on it.

Very strong signals from all over NS on the FM broadcast band tonight. Multiple competing signals on 161.650 and 161.775 from up there as well.

In addition to tuning around, one fun thing that I'm starting to do with band openings...I have gone back to my BCD536HP for main scanning of my area as I feel it does a better overall job on analog signals than the SDS200 does. So, watching my Airspy's spectrum display I see that MSCOMMNET CC on 160.950 is very strong. Looked up the zip code for the Waterboro ME site and punched it into the SDS200 and I'm listening to a good amount of traffic from Southern ME and NH.

Hearing both Environment Canada weather frequencies as listed above, and a ton of signals out there. Going to check out some UHF next but all of the usual VHF northern suspects are strong tonight.

UHF at 460 good as well. Good amount of BPD traffic.

Now back to VHF; found a DMR TIII CC on 157.545, shows as Site:L7-20, CC 0. Still looking for an ID at this point.

Hearing Maine on UHF. VHF has been open in every single direction.
I even was getting Bill's favorite system, the JetBlue trunk.

Still going strong this morning. Some NYPD 476 MHz activity from here as well. Last night's Tier III DMR system on 157.545 (cc) is still hanging in there as well. Also while not spectacular, 460.3625 NAC A1A Worcester County Sheriff HOC/Jail is a first for me. Both Environment Canada WX frequencies are very strong right now. Someone is kerchunking 160.830 123.0 which shows as New Jersey Transit Authority at RR.

Great opening!

I was able to get into a few 440 MHz repeaters in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia from Cape Neddick last night but was unfortunately not able to raise anyone.

On the west side of Brockton about 20 minutes ago I was able to receive New Bedford PD and MSP Zone 8 on the SDS100 without difficulty.

I didn't see it come up in a search either. I think there are still glitches over there with the new trunking pages.
I just happened to see a "suspicious" FCC license and looked under the listing of statewide trunk systems.

This exceptional band opening continues with the opening primarily to the north from here. Looking at the 470 MHz T band it looks like I live in the metro Boston area. Numerous MSCOMMNET systems present in VHF-HI. Bay of Fundy Traffic loud on Marine CH14 (156.700) which I monitor regularly for Cape Cod Canal Traffic Control. Running the SDS200 with the Wiscasset ME zipcode (04578) and hearing an abundance of analog and P25 traffic. When I came in a few times during early, mid, and late afternoon it appeared this opening really never faded at my location.

What is happening here in my QTH, aside from the Cape and NY state being strong.

I can't listen to MSP Zone 5. Almost all of the voice traffic on Zone 5 is coming on 857.7125, which happens to also be Nantucket's trunk control channel. If I have the noise on the VC, with this opening, I can only imagine that troopers are hearing it as well within Zone 05. Especially with tuned 800 antennas on their cruisers.
