Falmouth Police

#1 Post by Mark SNE Moderator » 23 Aug 2018 20:59

For several weeks now, Falmouth Police have been operating on their Zone 4 talk group on the Mass State Police Trunked radio system. Their normal operations on 855.4625 have not been heard for some time. This has happened once in a while over the years and mostly it's related to an issue with the channel, or repeater, or something similar.

This is the longest time I can remember that they have remained on the MSP system. I have no idea if this is a temporary switch until 855.4625 is back up and running, or if it may be a permanent switch? My hunch says it's temporary, but as they say, stay tuned!

Falmouth Police are back on 855.4625 D-445 now, so must have been an issue with the radio system itself.

Hi Mark, For the record, That period of time that Falmouth PD was on the trunk system was a decision by the PD internally as they were having coverage issues in areas known, and wanted to try the trunk system to see if coverage would improve. Unfortunately it didn't and they were asked by the State to return to the conventional system as the load capacity of the trunk system can get at it's limit at times. They use the trunk system occasionally when there are issues with the conventional but until the Digital system is in place they like others are waiting and remain on the conventional 800.. Just curious what you mean by this? Is something being built?

Well yeah but I thought that was still quite a ways off and I hadn't noticed any real construction locally. Are they starting to build on the Cape I guess was my question.

Yes it’s still a ways off. I think the cape will be the last to see the digital transfer. It’s been awhile since I have spoken with the State techs. Once that happens the new system will be large enough to handle the additional towns that want to utilize as there main Comms..

Just heard today via 3rd party that the State 800 digital transfer won't be happening for another 12 to 24 months for the Cape and Islands area. They are working West to East and it all depends on funding..Hold on to the old scanners.. :Bruins:
