Different Sound on Some FD Talkgroups

Post by Scott »

I'm noticing that some TG's on MSP Zone 04 are sounding a little different today, Mashpee and now Wellfleet. Others not as of yet, but they sound like that "semi-P25" sound for lack of a better definition, as some of the MSP consoles do. These are FD's that are dispatched by Barnstable County, so "something" is afoot...

...or my hearing is worse than I thought... :pint:

I hear Environmental Police on Zone 4 that has a similar P-25 sound to it.

I realized I didn't clearly define them as fire departments, just to clarify. I don't normally monitor the environmental police so can't comment on those.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one hearing this... Scan-NE.net was the first place I checked for info on this! Definitely noticeable for many Cape Cod FDs dispatched by Barnstable County.

They sound like Plymouth Control does when they sign on M/A Dispatch. I know the "shack" was going to be doing console upgrades, by the sounds of things it may have happened?

Makes sense, as I'm hearing it as far as I can tell exclusively on the FD's for which BCSO provides dispatch services.

Mashpee went out for a call last night and I was listening and noticed it. I can only attribute it to the new consoles going in at the sheriffs in preparation for the pending CoMIRS build out that will happen in the coming years.

Don't hold me to this, but IIRC it was because the audio is processed through the Astro Core. Which can control Type II systems and even conventional ones.
