If my "research" is correct, it seems that West Barnstable FD will be adding a new UHF repeater. Seems like final approval was end of September. WRVL872 453.6750 PL 173.8. Right now just Morse ID on this tone. Coverage atleast Exit 2 to Exit 8.

With the COMIRS upgrade coming and the fact that two tone does not play nice with P25 expect to see more UHF conventional frequencies to pop up for Cape departments for paging.

Having no issues utilizing two tone paging on P25 here in Webster. Of course, not 800 TRS, but VHF Conv. But it is working well with no issues to date.

From what I was told the "shack" encode/decode is distorted when used on a P25 trunked system.

Re: Looks like new UHF FD freq.
While it may sound bad on a scanner, modern P25 actually encodes a digital data packet that says "this is a tone with a frequency of xxx Hz". Pagers actually respond to these data packets rather than the audio. So it works just as good or better than analog. There is a company that makes a trunked 800MHz P25 pager and it's being used in Franklin County, MA.
The Cape departments may have issues related to their tones being sourced on digital consoles connected to an analog trunk then patched over to a non-trunked channel. That's a lot of steps and audio distortion at any point will cause paging issues.

The MPSCS in Michigan has hundreds, if not thousands of Unications on the system that are working fine. Not sure it's a tone thing as much as a hesitancy to upgrade legacy equipment.

Re: Looks like new UHF FD freq.
I wonder if this is just Fire Departments still trying to hang onto analog knowing that COMIRS future is all P25.
Re: Looks like new UHF FD freq.
The discussion about regionalization has taken this specific thread about the UHF frequency way off course, so I've split it into it's own thread.
