Harvard University Capacity Plus

#1 Post by OceanNora » 05 Oct 2019 09:53

I recently noticed that I was hearing less on the Harvard University Trunk than usual so I ran a search of the frequencies licensed to them not currently listed in the trunk. It appears that 451.7250 and 452.9750 are now in use. Oddly, when I attempt to run LCN finder I only find 2 LCNs, with one frequency (461.8250) changing LCNs from when I initially ran it about a year ago from 2 to 4. Is that normal?

My reception of that system is spotty at best. This afternoon I was getting 451.975 as LCN 4, OTA 7/8 as the Rest Channel. I'm not 100% sure that's accurate though. The Color Code was 8.

As to changing LCNs as frequencies are converted over from the old system, I'd say it's possible, if not very common. After all, it's all in how the controller is programmed.

Maybe if I am closer and have some time I can listen when it's likely to be more active.

ETA: At the time of this update 451.725 is showing as LCN 5, OTA 9/10. TG 21 copied with what sounded like security or maybe facilities traffic. Talking about unlocking a room for someone.

That's what I've been getting as well, which is interesting as I had been getting 461.8250 with a LCN of 2 only a day prior to running LCN finder again. I'm definitely not receiving as much traffic with the current setup as before, which makes me wonder if there are other frequencies in play.

Today 451.975 and 451.725 were active, but no other frequencies. Mostly TG21 and TG43. TG43 is definitely the shuttle service. TG21 sounds like facilities, with checking various alarms and to see of various devices are active.

Tomorrow will probably be busier and I'll try to listen for a bit.

As of now, 461.8250 is showing as LCN 2, OTA 3/4. I can't account for what LCN Finder shows, but that's what DSDPlus reports.

I'm going to do an update on the Wiki page with the new info.

That matches with what I got when I ran LCN Finder today. I got 462.8250 LCN 2, 451.7250 LCN LCN 5, and 451.9750 LCN 4. I have 452.9750 in my Sentinel as LCN 3, I believe I had found that previously with LCN Finder but I can't confirm. As for talkgroups I managed to ID quite a few, mostly thanks to testing and Graduation. I have a few more probable TG's, but I think that's enough for one post.

Facilities Maintenance Operations:

TG 10 - Main Yard
TG 21 - FMO 1 (by day Fire Alarm Techs, by night simulcast of one of the analog UHF channels)
TG 23 - FMO 2

Energy & Utilities
TG 14 - E&U 1
TG 20 - E&U 5

Harvard Event Management
TG 57 - Events 1
TG 59 - Events 2

Harvard Law School
TG 67 - HLS Ops 1 (FMO - Facilities Management Office)
TG 69 - HLS Ops 2

Transportation & Parking Services
TG 41 - Parking Services
TG 43 - Shuttle Dispatch

That all makes perfect sense. I've all seen hits on TG 11 and TG 12, but not enough to figure out who they are.

What you have for TG21, fits in with what I've been hearing. Not security, but response to various types of alarms.

I would expect that analog will be phased out as more radios are replaced.

I don't have TG 11, but TG 12 definitely belongs to Energy & Utilities based on my notes. TG 91 Appears to be the Harvard Observatory Facilities, but I can't confirm 100%. Ditto for TG 87 being libraries security. As far as LCNs, no changes from the 3 yesterday, still no LCN found for 462.3250 or 452.9750. If you want me to add the TG info in the data submission forum I'd be happy to do so.

I'll grab the information from here and update the Wiki. We have your confirmation of 462.325 from last December, so I don't think we need to reconfirm. 452.975 should be LCN 3/OTA 5/6, but we still need to confirm. System was fairly busy today while I was listening.

Ran LCN Finder for a few hours today, I did get a LCN of 3 for 452.9750 along with a reconfirmation of LCN 5 for 451.7250.

452.975 is one of the channels used by Gillette Stadium for parking control. DSD+ has hit on that and hijacked it, so I'm getting parking control today. I'll won't get back to listening to Harvard until the weekend.

OTOH, I was over there are about 9:00 this morning and the parking people were out already. I spoke with one of the women working in a lot and she told me that they'd be out there until after midnight. I'm going to take the opportunity to see if I can identify a couple more talk groups.
