City of Quincy Trunk System

#1 Post by garys » 07 Nov 2017 20:38

A new Cap+ system has gone live for Quincy. At this point the only active frequency is 851.3625. That's showing as Channel 1/2 in DSD+. Color Code is 1
Other frequencies are,

851.5625
851.8500
853.6500
853.8250

These frequencies have been licensed by Quincy for at least 10 years, but never used.

At this point I've only seen two talk groups (10, 12) and no voice traffic. TGs are 5xxx.
Traffic appears to be data of some sort, but DSD+ doesn't recognize it, so it's not text, ARS, or any other data traffic I've seen on other systems.

I don't know if anyone else with a SDR set up is close enough to hear it, but maybe someone can determine what kind of data that is.

I expect that this system will expand as the license application said that it would be used for city departments, data, and Emergency Management.

It's off of I-93 in Quincy. Good elevation. There is a huge ICE tower up there, as well as a smaller tower. I don't know which tower the antenna is located on. Depending on where you are in Plymouth, it should be a pretty straight shot.

There's some activity this morning, different TGs, but again without voice. I restarted and will let it run for a while and run new VC and CC log files.

The FCC and Google Earth put it on the 700 foot Monster at the 213 meter level [698.819 feet]
42° 14' 49.4" N, 71° 2' 54.2" W

Cool. I can never get the right location on either Google Earth or Google Maps. I obviously need remediation. BTW, I had a few minutes to listen to Southwest at Logan. Definitely DMR, but I was too busy figuring out the missing frequencies to ICE Site 22 to devote enough time. I'll be back at Logan a couple of times next week and will see what I can hunt down.

Hello,

I looked at my logs and I posted a message about the system back in 2013.

I think this is the system were there is a data channel that seems to be polling radios and also sends out information about voice activity on other channels. I will see if I have some more info.

Trying to listen to this today, I ran into an odd situation. It's a Cap+ system with 851.3625 operating as Channel 1/2. I have it set up in DSD+, but when DSD-CC should be feeding information to FMP24-VC to follow voice traffic, nothing seems to happen.

I've checked my configuration and it appears correct, so I'm at a loss.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Gary

Working on this a bit more. 851.3625 is still Channel 1/2 with the rest channel currently on Channel 1. 851.850 shows as a DMR (Motorola) conventional channel with ARS data. So, it might not be part of the trunk, but used for data only.

No activity so far on the other three frequencies.
