Boston Marathon 2019

#1 Post by ecps92 » 10 Apr 2019 13:19

With the Marathon less than a week away, there should already be plenty of testing of the networks.
Patches to/from BAPERN and the State TRS
Interops, local [BAPERN, Metro Fire etc] and Federal, Amateur Radio etc

What DMR will the BAA be using this year ?

See Previous years threads for suggested standard Ops channels / patches etc

I have also been hearing testing on Talkgroups 6010xx series on the OneVoice system's Boston site. I unfortunately wasn't able to log all of them, but there seemed to be a few being tested that weren't in use during last year's marathon.

Keep in-mind the channel #, could be Zone specific.

The System/Zones are broken up as
a. 1 - Finish Line / Transportation
b. 2 - Over All Course
c. 3 - Start / Village Ops

Hello,

There is radio traffic for the BAA 5K this morning. It uses a subset of the Marathon channels.

I still have to go through my recordings for the last couple of days to see if I can get testing on the OneVoice channels. So far it looks like the same setup as last year. I cannot hear the dedicated repeaters in the finish area, but from the transmissions I heard the radio shop (Revere?) can not either. That seems to indicate they are temporary on-site repeaters rather than ones on top of the buildings.

Thanks John for the TotalRF information.

I heard them testing from different locations, they also are identifying what type of radio they are using saying "Motorola" or "Kenwood" so they must be rating the different types.

Hello,

Things usually kick off around 3 AM or so as the thousands of runners are bused from Boston out to Hopkinton.

Hello,

I am getting bag checks on 600002 and 600003. There is one person who is transmitting with an open mike occasionally on 600002. This is on the OneVoice system site 69.

Driving into Boston just now I heard 12289 on the 700Mhz Overlay. Sounded like a medical proceed out team, but not Boston EMS.

It's starting to get busy as "the pack" starts to hit the last couple of miles.

Add 12291 to the list. Sounded like a medical tent, requesting a BLS or ALS ambulance for transport. Reference to the "medical director" so maybe BAA medical facility.
We're peace loving people, we're not hunting trouble, but if trouble should find us, we'll stand up and fight.
