151.6850 - Haunted?!

#1 Post by n1zyy » 15 Dec 2019 22:03

I came across something really odd on 151.6850, PL 151.4. At first it sounded like someone with an echo mic way over-driving the audio, but there were also tones that sounded somewhere between a paging transmitter and some sort of siren/alarm. My initial note on coming across it was "Horrible audio," and listening to what was picked up in discovery mode, it's honestly a little bit creepy-sounding.

Searching it, I find that PL note as being used by the Fernald Center -- a long-shuttered mental hospital!

So... Has anyone else come across this? Any idea what it's actually being used for? I feel like it may be some sort of data signal, but it's not anything I recognize. I have happened across this on the band before, so I don't think it's just a goofball playing around.

That Computer reporting has been there since the 80's, I think we tracked it down in the 90's to a Refrigeration Warehouse, in the Everett/Chelsea area.
