Boston Calling 2023

Post by MASSBUSMARK »

This afternoon while sitting at Newton North High School and running search on my TRX-1 I stumbled across the All-Comm/DC Rentals DMR portable trunk system for this weekend's Boston Calling concerts at Harvard Stadium. Activity heard on 461.2375, 461.2625, 461.2875, and 461.3125. A few TG's very active in the half hour I was listening before my group's sporting event was cut short due to the approaching rain and had to leave:

214- 2 units testing portables
222-One transmission heard, asking someone to call them on their phone
223-mentioned setting up lights and moving trucks from the stadium fire lane
227-stage set up crews, mentioned start putting tarps on all equipment on stage with rain approaching
237-someone being sent to Home Depot to pick up more tarps.

Slots & colors varied between Slot 1 Color 9 & Slot 2 Color 9

What items are prohibited from the Festival?
All patrons are subject to search upon entry every time you enter the festival grounds. Please note all items that are confiscated or voluntarily surrendered WILL NOT be held or returned.

On the list: Walkie Talkies

Doesn't seem right! I think a wealthy federally licensed ham radio operator should take that to court. I hope this doesn't start to become a thing at events. It's not good for us radio junkies!

There is nothing to sue for, John. Private function on private property. In fact even if were on public property there is nothing to sue for.

Yesterday SOPS-2 was patched to something for Boston Calling. It may have been a Cambridge or Harvard resource. I also don't appear to be hearing the DC Rentals portable trunk here at my apartment in Newton this year. I usually get it well here but perhaps it's not up on that hill there this year.

Talkgroup 1195 has had activity today that sounded Boston Calling related. I'm listening to it on the 700MHz trunk. Not sure if this is Harvard PD or what agency it is?

Wiki shows 1195 as Harvard PD patched to their 484Mhz frequency. That's listed on the Cambridge trunk patch, so maybe the portables are seeing the 700Mhz sites better than the Cambridge sites.

You're welcome. Things got a bit sporty at the end from what I heard. Much more sporty on Revere Beach from what I heard on A Patrol 2 and A Patrol 3 plus Area Wide 3 & 4.

Then there was the alleged missing swimmer off of Castle Island. They searched around a bit, but couldn't verify it.

In other news, one of the blades on one of the wind turbines out in the harbor is wobbling, so MSP Marine units were helping DCR keep boats away from the area. Apparently the Marine Unit operates on the Statewide TG.

Fun listening!
