Williamstown/Village Ambulance

#1 Post by MrSvenSven » 27 Nov 2017 13:09

I stumbled across this article from September:

http://www.reformer.com/stories/north-a ... ge,519967?
North Adams Ambulance Service and Village Ambulance Service in Williamstown have agreed to merge, the two agencies announced on Thursday.

Pending the "operational, regulatory, governance and legal issues" the nonprofits must still work through, they hope to form a regional Northern Berkshire ambulance service as "expediently as possible," according to a statement released Thursday by North Adams Ambulance General Manager John Meaney Jr.

Both ambulance services will continue to operate independently until the merger is finalized, with a goal of Jan. 1, 2018.
I was in that general area this weekend and threw some Williamstown frequencies in the scanner. I monitored Village ambulance on 151.5800R D023 and Williamstown PD on 155.2500R 107.2.

I also heard what I believe was Williamstown Police traffic on 154.2350 107.2 which is in the wiki as "fireground" with no recent confirmation. I'm wondering if this is patched to 155.2500. Unfortunately I only had one scanner with me and wan't able to listen to the two channels side by side. It was not as strong at 155.2500, but I heard everyone with the same strength so it was a patch or repeater rather than a simplex channel.

154.235 / 107.2 isn't a fireground. It's a cross-tie to North Adams PD, so North Adams can communicate with Williamstown. Similar to an "intercity" but not really. The 154.235 is fairly weak and you can only receive it up in that area, and not beyond it. I was unable to reconfirm it last time through there, I didn't spend enough time. Williamstown uses 154.1600 / 107.2 as their fireground channel.

So it's patched to 155.2500 all the time? Or is it only activated during an incident?

I can't answer that. I seem to recall it only being an "as needed" but that was close to 10 years ago.

I was in the area again this weekend and heard both Williamstown and North Adams EMS on 155.8425 151.4. I didn't hear anything at all on the former Village Ambulance frequency of 151.5800 that I monitored in November.

I monitored units 1,3, and 5 communicating with "North Adams Dispatch", also just shortened to "Dispatch" responding to 911 calls in North Adams and Stamford (VT). I think that is be the police and/or fire dispatcher as I could hear EMD and the 911 phone ringing in the background at one point.

North Adams sent a tone for Stamford (VT) FD and North Adams EMS to the town of Reedsboro (VT), but I didn't hear anything beyond the initial tone and the ambulance calling "en route" and "back in the city". I believe Reedsboro is dispatched by SWNH, and they probably used one of their frequencies on scene.

I also monitored "North Adams unit 6" and "North Adams unit 7" communicating with "Williamstown dispatch" discussing EMS transfers and non-emergency things, as well as 911 calls in Williamstown and Hancock and also a mutual aid call to North Adams. I think this is the former Village Ambulance service units and base.

Williamstown PD 154.2350 and 155.2500 appear to still be patched, so I assume it is a permanent thing.

I saw one of the ambulances this week and noticed that it has been rebranded "Northern Berkshire EMS". I only had the scanner on for a short time but the info in my post from January still appears accurate. Williamstown and North Adams ambulances share the 155.8425 frequency but have their own separate dispatchers.

Found this story online:
http://www.iberkshires.com/story/57438/ ... rsary.html

Looks like Williamstown (Village EMS) and North Adams merged. Village Ambulance Service in Williamstown covered Williamstown, Hancock and New Ashford.
North Adams Ambulance covered the city, and nearby Clarksburg, Florida, Monroe, and Rowe, as well as Stamford and Readsboro, Vermont.
