UMass Amherst Campus PD P25 & ENC

#1 Post by unit7 » 01 Sep 2018 14:56

While scanning some inactive channels today, I started getting P25 hits on an old UMass Amherst PD freq of 453.400 There was partial encryption, but what was in the clear referenced "campus" and "AFD". Amherst Fire would have ambulance calls that would correspond to what I was hearing. I disabled the 173.8 PL on 463.850 (main campus PD dispatch) on my analog scanner and heard the distinct digital buzz saw. I have not heard PD on the Umass trunk system. I put the two UMass freqs into my 996XT, but have not yet gotten a NAC as it got quiet. This is "move in" weekend for students, so there should be activity.

Update: NAC 545 on 463.850

As of 9pm, 463.850, Campus PD dispatch, appears fully encrypted. Will listen over the next couple days to see if that changes. Not sure if the other frequency was a simplex channel or other, but I have not heard anything further on it and its signal strength was much weaker.

I went up this past week to the Northampton/Amherst area for the purpose of updating and confirming college info. I have update the WIKI with what I found. I will add the update to the 453.4000 channel as I did not get any traffic on it during the short time I was up there. The 463.8500 is already updated.

Three college sharing services. These three channels are patched/simulcast:
Hampshire College (Amherst) 452.0125 Campus Police DMR now, DCC 3, TG 50.
Smith College (Northampton) 461.5750 Campus Police DMR now, DCC 2, TG 50.
Mt Holyoke College (South Hadley) 464.3750 Campus Police DMR now, DCC 1, TG 50.

Mt Holyoke College (South Hadley) 461.2500 D503 Maintenance?
Mt Holyoke College (South Hadley) 461.2500 D703 Maintenance?
Not sure what is up with seeing the 2 different PLs. Not enough traffic listened to to determine if one was in error or if this is 2 users at the school.

UMass LTR System (Amherst). Very active with no Ch 7 any more.
