Winter Storms make great new Finds

Post by ecps92 »

The WCVB news story reminded me "Hundreds of utility crews from several states and Canada are on standby ahead of the season's first major snowstorm"
https://www.wcvb.com/article/eversource ... m/34979933

of the many finds outside of our DPW / Plow / PD /FD and standard Utility monitoring

Hydro Quebec and many of the other Canadian assistance maybe found in Low Band or the VHF [what we call FEDERAL] High bands.
keep in mind, your USA Scanner is defaulted to the US Channel plans and finding 163.2875 with lots of chatter in French is nice
but the real frequency is 163.2900 [Per the Canadian FCC equiv] And of course there will be the folks coming up from the South helping us as well

Just a few hints/tricks as we Weather out the Storm [posting to the "Rest of the World" due to the wide area this storm is expected to cover.

Have not heard them in awhile, so they must have been RTE-3 SB passing x35 [damn new numbering systems]

Signals are a little stronger here now when they are present so you may be correct. Also saw/heard a signal on 163.565 but the signal is too far in the mud to make out the audio. I am hearing what sounds like MDC1200 on it. It appeared that .565 was indeed centered, i.e. not .5625 etc.

I went in search of a list for Hydro Quebec but a quick look came up negative so I must have missed it. Of course it could be another entity as well, or completely unrelated. It may have a DCS tone.

So after all these years thinking 163.2900 107.2 is/was Quebec Hydro, with a little help from el' Jeffe on the CAPE
who ran accoss some Mutual Aid trucks, reported the company of Gagnon Construction and searching TAFL [FCC of CN] guess who is licensed
https://tafl.mckie.ca/?detail=0001004630&prov=NB for 163.2900 Simplex.

And allows us to go for one final swing thru our DPW and Plowing channels for some good attempts at some updated verifications

Bill: "Winter returns for One final visit...."
New England: "Surprise"

Snow covering most of Norfolk county now and everywhere west/north of here.

Keep an ear out, they're (plows) definitely out...

A number of accidents due to the snow moving much farther east than original predicted.

I that you were talking to me thought that I was smart leaving the driveway markers in the ground until May 1st. Unfortunately I put the spare gasoline from the snowblower to my truck the other day. It's all my fault.
We're peace loving people, we're not hunting trouble, but if trouble should find us, we'll stand up and fight.

I pulled mine out the 2nd weekend in a row we hit 60. So I will take some blame for this...
