New RISCON Zone

Post by W1KNE »

Hearing from friends of mine, a new RISCON "zone" has gone online.

Site 1-18

Licensed frequencies:
860.3125
859.3125
858.3125
854.2875
853.7375
852.2125
851.9250
851.6500

I am getting CC data on 860.3125 but not strong enough to decode or obtain an NAC.

I think this must have been one of the quickest, flip the switch, we got the license, is the ink dried yet on that license, I have ever seen.

Picking up some bars here in North Mashpee on 860.3125, no decode. Perhaps after sunset.

I can barely see it with my Airspy R2, but I can't hear it.

Looks like the Riscon East Zone is just starting up. There is no transmissions as of now. The South Zone is the best I have ever heard. A couple of weeks back I had no South Zone now it's back at 99% decode and the sound is solid. All the East Zone traffic is still on the South Zone. :pint:

Are there going to be new talkgroups or are some current TGs being transferred ? Odd because the south zone covers all this area as well

I would guess they become separated eventually.

Nothing this morning from North Mashpee using my 800 beam. Disappointing. I was hoping for a shot at it. Is the control channel transmitting?

So here we go:
:pint:
East Zone was a 3 year project and designed to be a flip-the-switch endeavor.
South will be separated from the new East zone in the very near future.
All TG's currently used by the towns in the new zone will be East Zone only TG's.
There are no immediate plans for any "new" TG's for the East zone.
The South may cover that entire area but there were other considerations: radio traffic management, increased coverage, system management

The East Zone is up and running. The morning Intercity radio check was loud and clear. One thing to note its not a very powerful zone if you look at the FCC ULS the Portsmouth site is 125.00 watts all the other sites are well under that.

And out there, it doesn't need to be either.
With that said I do get the CC here.

Yes, knew the CWID, but the other data coming across the voice channels [via SDR monitoring] was perplexing

Thanks

Got some broken traffic on that zone today here in Taunton. Nothing that could decode but can tell there is activity, and coverage up here.
When I do get my south facing 800 Yagi up, I hope to get a better decode on it.

Been listening to the new Riscon East Zone. What a big improvement they have made to the Riscon system! The signal and reception is great, no break up . I can't wait to see what the new Charlestown tower will do for the South Zone. :Bruins:

Does anyone have the East Wide talkgroup ID numbers yet? Those would be the East Zone equivalents to the current Metro Wide (1185, 1186, 1187 and 1188), North Wide (1173, 1174, 1175, 1176 and 1177) and South Wide (1018, 1019, 1020, 1021 and 1037) talkgroups.

A check of the SNE Wiki and the latest Radio Reference database (dated 03-29-2020) under RISCON "Statewide Area/Events" shows nothing listed yet for the East Wide talkgroups. Perhaps someone "in the know" inside of RISCON has the information.

They never were Middletown, but they used them the most. Originally named East Bay Mutual Aid 1-3 and utilized as the Zone wide mutual aid TG's with the new zone.
