New L/A radio system could be in the works

#1 Post by akfiredog377 » 24 Nov 2018 22:58

I was talking with the mayor of Lewiston on the issues with the current radio system they had with a major incident this past summer. Due to that and other problems they are looking at possibly switching over to a 7/800 p25 system in about three years. I have not seen any evidence on this yet, but will keep my ears open. If anyone else has information on this let the forum know.

If I am reading this correct, the new system will be in operation somewhere in 2019-2020.

From the Attachment to the application, looks more like 2020-2021 as the Construction would be completed in the 4th Quarter of 2020

Slow Growth Justification and Implementation Schedule

The City of Auburn, ME seeks an extended implementation schedule under
90.629(a)(1), due to the size of the system. Auburn plans to implement an eight frequency,
five-site simulcast trunked system to provide critical communications
to the police, fire and EMS services of Auburn and Lewiston, ME. This new system
will provide additional capacity and enhanced services that will improve those
agency’s ability to safeguard the property, health and security of the citizens of
Androscoggin County, ME. The City will require longer than twelve months to
implement this system and is seeking a period of just over two years to complete
construction.

We have secured funding through Bonds and Grants and are developing our final
system requirements with a goal of issuing an RFP by the end of this year.

The proposed implementation schedule is as follows:
Milestone Completion Date:
Development of RFP 4Q18
System Award 1Q19
Site/Lease Acquisition 2Q19
System Construction Begins 3Q19
Construction Completed 4Q20

5 site P25 Phase 2 trunked system. RFP due in February
Lots of information on the proposed system. Worth taking the time to read through the file. I would suggest you download it and save the file. I occasionally want to refer to old contracts or RFPs for info on systems. It is nice to have it on hand.
