Biddeford Trunk

Post by W1KNE »

Coming online sometime soon is a new trunk in Biddeford.

We have created a wiki page for it. When our "up north" folks start to hear it come online and can possibly decipher it, data would be appreciated for the wiki.

Sorry to be dense. I can't seem to find it in the wiki. Can you post a link?
Thanks
If weather holds I might be up that way in March.

Not dense. It just is a placeholder, so it's only linked on my "work in progress" part.

Wow, that Powerpoint is some serious BS promulgated by the /\/\otorola PR machine.

EVERYONE around them is VHF or UHF (yes except Portland which is a ways away M/A wise). So they'll probably be buying either APX 7000s/7500s or 8000s/8500s which are far more expensive than just upgrading their VHF radios to APX6000/6500s.

With all the talkgroups they're proposing there's gonna be an awful lot of 'bonking' going on during a serious incident.

They already completed their upgrades, which are the APX 8000s series. That way they'll have interoperability with Cumberland County (VHF) and York County (UHF).

Swallowing the Motorola sales pitch hook, line and sinker. Single source shouldn't be legal for municipalities. They could upgrade VHF including adding any needed channels and sites for a small fraction of the cost.

There are some outright lies in there, LOL. Glad I'm not a taxpayer in Biddeford.

Alright, please keep this thread on track of the original intent.

To identify the system when it comes online and parse information. Any more "off topic" posts from this point forward will be deleted.

Thanks.

Does anyone know how everyone else is supposed to interop with them especially Saco? It makes no mention of it. Are they going to patch their existing frequency(s) on the fire side?

Until it comes on-line, much commentary is all speculation

It says that they'll be getting (or have gotten) APX 8000/8500s. Those are all band, VHF/UHF/7-800.

What they'll do for incoming M/A? <shrug> Maybe an in vehicle cross band, or a console patch? On any reported structure fire at least 3 or 4 towns respond, on both VHF and UHF.

It'll be interesting to see how far out of town the system reaches. Hopefully it'll be on line by May.

I frequent So Maine in the summer so I'll check in on it when I come up. With the delays that's been plaguing the world I'd be surprised if the project is on schedule.

Mutual aid, City coverage, etc by neighboring towns is very important and communications -should- be a top priority. Hopefully somebody knows what's going on so the neighboring towns can make adjustments to their VHF radio's if necessary. Until then I digress.

The system is almost completely installed and operating. Currently they are still using VHF.

That being said, they chose to build their own system based on the recommendations of their sales personnel. They are going to be interoperable going out of their own town.

Units going into Biddeford are going to be access the system via patch channels. That information has not been fully released yet, but it will be much like Portland and Nashua, NH. I have been told their will be both a VHF and UHF patch into the system, and their will be patches on both the fire and PD systems.
Thank you and God Bless,

Can it be assumed that the PD will remain fully encrypted on the new system as well?
