238.250 Huntress directing Maple 81

238.250 Huntress directing Maple 81 heard about an hour ago.
Training exercise with mock target an intercept of an F-16 with missiles
tail number 'xyz' Maple reporting that Pilot appears unconscious.
<milage> north of Concord 'wartag' (unsure of acronym)
Engagement authentications heard.

I searched the wiki for this freq but I'm not sure if I missed it and am doing something wrong with the search or if it's just not listed. Understandable with so many milair freqs out there. Interesting comms to listen to.

Also in use was 125.125 AM (I have it listed as Maple Ops 2) and 251.075AM (I have as "Yankee Laser")

I also heard what sounded like the tee off just prior to the exercise on 282.2 referencing being 'in Yankee-Laser airspace for about 10 Mike' then 'leaving individually direct Burlington'.

This is an interesting drill. They run this quite frequentley. The first time I head it I was frozen in my spot until they said "drill".

Most likely they are being directed by or through "Giant Killer".

Do a google search on Giant Killer VACAPES.

I think the VHF freq is a typo. I could be wrong, and didn't listen yesterday, but I have their A/A chit-chat freq as 125.125 AM.

NO they were NOT controlled by Giant Killer for this training exercise. This was taking place in the Yankee Laser MOA located in New Hampshire and Maine, this would have been controlled by Huntress. Giant Killer controls the airspace only over the Atlantic Ocean in warning areas such as W-105, W-107 located roughly south of Martha's Vineyard.

NO they were NOT controlled by Giant Killer for this training exercise. This was taking place in the Yankee Laser MOA located in New Hampshire and Maine, this would have been controlled by Huntress. Giant Killer controls the airspace only over the Atlantic Ocean in warning areas such as W-105, W-107 located roughly south of Martha's Vineyard.


OK maybe this changes per exercise. About a year ago when I heard a similar drill which was taking place in/over the Albany area they were running this drill on the on the GIANT KILLER freq.

The area you are talking about off of MV I think is called the ADIS Zone which is about 20 miles south of the MV.

At about the same time I heard NOAA weather being rebroadcast on one of the GK frequencies, i think it was 305.000 but i'm not sure.

In my travels today, I was listening to what sounded like drill activity on 138.625, which I have as an A/A channel for the 158th FW. This was around 1pm today, but I haven't been able to get online until now...

Giant Killer controls aircraft over the water, generally, while Huntress controls aircraft over land.
