MRS - Metro Radio System

Post by Patsfan5864 »

Is this organization still active? I was a member many years ago, my membership lapsed when I was deployed in the military, and never got around to re-joining.

I’ve heard sporadic traffic on the scanner, but it seems to be just one guy giving broadcasts, then saying good night, I’m not hearing any on-scene updates like were common back in the day.

401 still signs on the air in service at "10 o'clock" at night and gives out a fire here and fire there. Pretty sure he pays to keep it alive. But its not like the old days of lots of members and taking in jobs.

Thanks, are there any organizations similar to the old MRS? That is, active members who provide on-scene updates? Looking to both monitor and join such a group.

Boston Citywide is about the most active around radio wise. Try contacting AllComm maybe they can put you in touch with the right people.

I was curious about this. I probably wouldn't participate a lot but wouldn't mind joining one or two of the local groups to support them, so I emailed MRS at the address on their license. It, surprisingly, went through, and I got a response back that membership is closed at this time. No worries from my perspective; just wouldn't want to see it go away because no one had expressed interest.

Southern Maine is the only one I know of in the area that's actively soliciting members, and they're out of area for me: https://sites.google.com/view/smfna
