Ground Stop

Post by garys »

FAA has ordered all domestic airlines grounded while they try to figure out why a computer system is off line.

Only exceptions are Newark and Atlanta.

Supposed to be back on line at 09:00.

Logan seems to be clearing the backlog finally. Lots of people across the country being delayed or not even getting off the grounds.

And just as things were getting back to normal, a runway incursion took place at JFK Friday night that could very nearly have been a major disaster: https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/15/faa-lau ... port-.html

Someone on Twitter shared the LiveATC.net audio; it does contain an expletive that I can't really fault them for: https://twitter.com/xJonNYC/status/1614370783899303938

I just watched a Porter Air DH8 do some fancy turning to get under a Jet Blue Airbus.

It looked weird, but now the Jet Blue plane is doing a U turn.

I'm glad they didn't hit because this went on literally over my house.

Now it look like Logan has a bunch of planes in holding patterns. Looking at Logan it appears that they are clearing runways.

I landed about 90 minutes before that. All seemed normal then. Runway had some snow, pilot didn't brake real hard and we had a much longer rollout than you usually do at the 3rd world Palace of Logan. Our approach seemed a lot lower than normal for quite a while, we turned in over Connecticut and came basically straight in. And while it was choppy, it was a lot smoother than I anticipated.

I've noticed that they come in at a lower altitude during bad weather. Normally over my house they're around 4500'. During bad weather they're in and around 4000' maybe even a little bit below that.
