"REMVEC" Radio test today

Post by riskan20 »

I was scanning my utilities and heard on 37.600 (pl 67) at 1:00pm local time a RADIO TEST. There was a male voice calling other stations by their callsigns and they, in turn would answer "loud and clear". The announcer said a few times that "This is the national grid radio test". I heard at least 3 of the stations he called loud and clear full signal. They were close to me judging by signal strength and my antenna not really optimized for low band. The announcers signal was about S-5 with some noise. Not sure where he was. Most of the other stations he called were pretty noisy. I will listen again tomorrow at 1pm to see if I hear them again.

I wonder if https://www.snewiki.com/wiki/index.php/ ... ies#REMVEC is due for an update. It shows a PL of 123.0 and a 2pm local test. (Same thing on other states.) I'll have to try listening in some time.

Edit: More to the point, the RI entry hasn't ever been confirmed: https://www.snewiki.com/wiki/index.php/ ... ompany_Inc

REMVEC 123.0

RI NGrid may also run their own NET with a different PL, but 67.0 sounds ODD
anyone else local validate this PL and then as a reminder, make a submission once it is confirmed as REMVEC or another Net

He's in Cranston. And discussing REMVEC on Low Band, not National Grid's radio system. Two separate entities.

REMVEC is the Rhode Island, Eastern Mass, Vermont energy control (Formerly Electric control). It's basically a power pool that is run as a satellite of the NEPX (formerly the NePool.), which deals with the exchange of power sources and distribution on our local power grids. The radio channel is designed for the power plants and system operators to talk to each other, although it is never used outside of tests and very occasional communications. (And yes, the energy exchanges are a lot more involved than my simplified explanation here.)

https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/4111875 is a great document from the IEEE.

I clearly heard the announcer saying "National Grid"....I will record the transmission today and hopefully it will come on at 1:00pm like yesterday.

That response was to another user Bob. Please don't confuse things. National Grid supplies into the REMVEC pool. But the frequency is REMVEC, which National Grid and others supply into.

No need to record it, just get a PL

Thanks.
